The Hattori stuff is actually pretty decent equipment. He was unimpressive at Martinsville, extremely underwhelming at Phoenix in the Xfinity car last weekend, and DNQ's here at Homestead going slower than the likes of Jennifer Jo Cobb, Timmy Hill, and Travis Kvapil in a MAKE truck. We could be looking at the next Justin Labonte or Jason Jarrett. 4. 88&4Fan posted: 11.20.2015 - 6:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) You people realize he had hardly any owners points right? 5. If my math is correct Erik Jones only needs to finish 26th or better and no matter what Tyler Reddick does he goes home with his first NASCAR title. Matt Crafton is mathematically alive but a huge long shot to win a third-straight title. If Erik Jones pulls it off he'll be the first NASCAR Truck Series champion from the "Great Lakes State" of Michigan since Jack Sprague in 2001. 12. Good for her and team. *Brandon Brown getting in. Brandon Brown missed Charlotte and the fall Martinsville race after qualifying 28 out of 35/36 and I'm glad to see them fall on the right side of the cutoff for once. *Lira Motorsports with both of their rookie drivers. New team to truck series with two young guys that had to be under pressure today to make it in with one timed lap. Good going for them. And I'm agreeing with most of you all on Ross Kenseth. It seems he will do okay in the best equipment, but put him in something midpack, and he will just fade away. And sorry MAR, but Ross Chastain was going to end up qualifying the #18 truck in the top 16 at Chicago before it rained and the rain sent him home. Shigeaki Hattori brings pretty decent equipment whenever we see him in Xfinity or Truck competition. The son of Matt Kenseth should not be getting beat by Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing, Premium Motorsports, and Brandon Brown's unsponsored family truck. 20. Reddick will put up a good fight, I think, but he's far enough behind (19 points) where it's likely not going to make a difference. Crafton is pretty much all BUT eliminated after his wreck at Phoenix last week...so no doubt Pucci Man and the other members of the ABC (Anyone But Crafton) community have something to smile about. 23. Consider: KBM - Byron-9, Bell-54 BKR - Hemric-19, Reddick-29 ThorSport - Crafton-88, 13, 98 TBD (Hayley, Little, David Ragan, Regan Smith?) GMS - Gallagher-23, Sauter-33 Red Horse - Kennedy?-11, Peters-17 JHN-8 Custer-00 Townley-05 That's 14 competitive drivers, with Tyler Young and RBJ probably returning also. Also: Billy Boat Motorsports - Mingus or Chad Boat will likely be in a truck full time NTS - Possibly Rico Abreu to replace Hemric? Lira could also field a truck for Levine or Weatherman if sponsorship is found 115. 88&4Fan posted: 11.28.2015 - 6:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tyler Young, Ray Black, and Mingus/Chad Boat are hardly going to be championship contenders, but I agree I think it will be a much better season competition-wise than the last few. 116. murb posted: 11.28.2015 - 8:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It should be an exciting year with at least quite a few different race winners, but I'd say Crafton, Peters, Reddick, Custer, maybe Hemric, and maybe JHN are the only guys (not counting Ragan or Smith if one of them gets the #98) with a realistic shot at the title (I'd also throw Sauter in there, but I have no idea how he'll do at GMS - personally I'm thinking it might be a downgrade). Everyone else is either too young/inexperienced, in mediocre equipment, or both. But yes, it should be a fun year for the Trucks. I think it's shaping up to be better than NXS for sure (mainly because I think Erik Jones is gonna leave everyone in the dust and run away with the NXS title). 117. It doesn't look as if we'll see a Bryan Silas (10th-2014) or RBJ (11th-2015) scenario caused by a weak field. With all the drivers I mentioned, there should be a lot of competition to occupy the top 5-10 spots in points. I just hope they don't add a Chase, because I've always found he trucks exciting as is 118. I'm excited about the upcoming season KBM - Byron-9, Bell-54 BKR - Hemric-19, Reddick-29 Thorsport - Rhodes-41, Crafton-88, 13 and/or 98 TBA GMS - Sauter-21, Gallagher-23, Enfinger-33 Red Horse - Kennedy(haven't heard otherwise)-11, Peters-17 Nemco - Nemechek-8 JRM - Custer-00 Athenian - Townley-05 Austin Wayne Self-22 Tyler Young-02 Ray Black-07 And NTS and Billy Boat are highly likely to be back full-time This series has become MUCH better than Xfinity as of late. 119. Regan running as a rookie would really make the battle interesting 120. While over in the Xfinity Garage teams are on life support cause all the drivers with funding are going truck racing. 121. Ak47 posted: 12.15.2015 - 3:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Xfinity has a huge have/have-not problem ...when only Cup funding can compete and there are only 15 or so Cup-backed rides, you end up with 2/3 of the field just logging laps. It's unbelievable that NASCAR doesn't realize just how bad that series has become 122. Tyson posted: 12.15.2015 - 3:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think Regan Smith would be eligible. He's got too many starts in the Truck Series. 23 total with 10 starts in one season and 9 in another. 123. Ak47 posted: 02.15.2016 - 6:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Just thought about this: if the CWTS chase has 8 drivers, and starts after 16 races, there's a good chance 8 different truck regulars will win and put themselves in the chase. This could result in a driver 10th, 12th, even 15th in points making the Chase while a driver in the top five, potentially multiple drivers, are forced to sit back and watch their undeserving peers compete for a championship they'd still be in the hunt for under a REAL system. I gotta say, NASCAR has made too great a habit of dropping the ball. It's actually laughable at this point. It's like they are so oblivious to what the fans want that they actually think doing the opposite is in the best interest of the sport. Jeez 127. Bell as well. Jones is Xfinity now, but that's easily 5 drivers that could win, add in Hemric is a real possibility. Same with Townley (no matter what idiots think, he could easily win one, he's improved, and had the 2nd best truck when he did win last year). Peters, and I could keep going. Kyle isn't running Trucks this year, so that'll help. Not sure if BKR is gonna have a 3rd truck in many races, haven't heard, but doubt it'll be all the time. Now do I think 8 or more will win races? No, but it's VERY likely that more than a few will. I think 5 or 6 is a very good possibility. 130.
