After qualifying yesterday Kaitlyn Vincie asked Austin Cindric, "Why did you qualify so well? What about this track suits you well?" I mean...come on. She must have had 0 clue that Austin has loads of sports car experience and some open wheel time. 8. Sure he's got his future all lined up for him at Penske, but he has a load of talent as well. He just needs a bit more NASCAR experience now. 10. RaceFanX posted: 09.04.2016 - 10:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) There are no former Truck series winners at Mosport entered this year. Custer set a new track record for a truck in qualifying. Christopher Bell and Timothy Peters spun in qualifying, Peters did it in the last round thus why he ended up 12th. 11. chevyfan98 posted: 09.04.2016 - 12:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 8- And Alex Tagliani. 12. JHN could really use a good run before the chase 13. jabber1990 posted: 09.04.2016 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I wish they had an American singing the US National Anthem, and a Canadian singing the Canadian National anthem its a bit blasphemous to have foreigners sing other peoples national anthems 14. This particular incident hasn't occurred before (to my knowledge, please correct me if I'm wrong). I feel like in this instance alone, Nemechek shouldn't be penalized. But going forward, if NASCAR wants to prevent this from happening again, they need to make a statement something along the lines of "don't run your competitor off the track into the guardrail to advance your position. 253. Thomas posted: 09.04.2016 - 6:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Officially you can try to push a car off the track now to win." Already established that you could do that. Just look at the 1989 Banquet Frozen Foods 300 when Rudd ran Rusty off the track coming out of turn 7 on the final restart. It wasn't the last lap, but it was still the difference. "I wouldn't disqualify. I'd use the Rudd/Allison precedent and put Nemechek back in 2nd. I would probably give both of them points fines as well, not that it matters when it comes to the chase (had Custer made it.)" That's a bad precedent to use on a number of levels. NASCAR violated its own rules by not placing Rudd at the back of the lead lap for failing to serve his penalty before the checkered flag (it was assessed in time for Rudd to come down pit road to serve it). 3rd place was far enough back that the way they chose to carry out the penalty Rudd was able to hold on to 2nd. A 5 second penalty (what NASCAR assessed to Rudd) to Nemechek today would have had placed him further back than 2nd. 254. And I'm not saying this as a fan of Elliott, he's pretty far down the favorite drivers list. But that one looked much more accidental than deliberate. "Instead of hating Nemechek for trying to win, how about hating NASCAR for throwing in gimmicks that ultra-rewards winning and puts these rich kids in ultra-desperate situations?" One major flaw in that argument: Nemechek already has a win this season. Therefore he wasn't in an ultra-desperate situation to save his season. And again, the first bump by JHN going through the last turn was fine, and he probably would have beat Custer in a drag race if they stayed on the track, similar to Blaney and German two years ago because JHN had more momentum. Therefore turning almost dead left and sending him into the grass was totally unnecessary. 303. In Chases defense he didn't even dump Ty. Ty left the door open going into the last turn and Chase drove it in deep to get there. Ty then tried to throw the block on him but it was too late. Chase was already there and Ty drove across his nose and pretty much wrecked himself. That being said after watching yesterdays finish a few more time, I think people are making this finish out to be way worse than it was. There's one replay angle that clearly shows the back end of JHN truck step out from him as they exit the last turn. It really looks like JHN just messed up and over corrected his truck which caused him to then door Custer. As for the next part where he kept him on the grass, I don't know. If I'm a driver, it doesn't matter if I have no wins, one win or six wins - If a win is within reach, I'm going for it. Like I said in a previous comment, I'd compare it more to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvjuRh-FXfM (start watching at the 1 hour 7 minute mark) Ironic that a few of the comments earlier were talking about how we were glad Gray Gaulding wasn't in this race and then JHN pulls a total Gaulding-esque move. 312. Second quote a win is a win no matter how you get it second is first loser. Look at circumstances Nemechek races week to week basically unsponsored for his dad's underfunded team that can close its doors any second I side with Nemechek for going for the win. Nobody said racing clean was the only way to race. Dale Earnhardt won a ton of races wrecking and bumping people out the way (coughs) 1999 Bristol night race. So honestly whenever you have a shot to win go for it. Yes Nemechek should have raced a little cleaner but I call no foul on the play it was hard good racing. Now in the other corner we have a Rich Kid who's career is set and has nothing to worry about because he's the son of one of the top sprint cup team general manager. I don't feel one bit bad for him cause he'll have other chances to win races. 314. murb posted: 09.05.2016 - 4:23 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) I like the comparison to the Logano/Sellers deal at Irwindale. It does remind me way more of that than any of the others that have been mentioned. There were some very similarly dirty moves in some of those Battle At The Beach races, but those races collectively had some of THE worst driving I've ever seen in my time watching racing, so I don't think this is totally comparable. EVERYONE was driving completely in over their heads and with no regard for anyone else in those races, so I'm not really gonna lump the JHN/Custer thing in with that just because AT LEAST this was a last lap only type of deal, unlike BATB which was just non-stop Wal-Mart parking lot level road rage from start to finish (really glad they got rid of it to be honest, looking back I thought it was all pretty embarrassing - although it WAS cool to see Steve Park win again, but even HE was dirty that night by knocking Stefanik out of the way IIRC). Overall, I still feel the same as I did yesterday. Had it been reversed I do think Custer would have tried something similar just from watching his aggressiveness over the past couple of years, but yes, it WAS a dirty move, and if Custer really does go out and wreck JHN somewhere I'll feel little if any sympathy for JHN. If you're gonna pull moves like that, you better accept the target on your back. 315. Pretty funny considering how Larson knocked a guy (who didn't have a guaranteed NASCAR Ride) out of the way to win a Battle of the Beach race a couple years back, with nary any controversy. 316. I think Logano was disqualified because it was a non-points exhibition race and didn't count towards any championship for him, so it was easy and completely noncontroversial for NASCAR to do that, while they would probably argue (whether you agree with them in practice or not) that they don't want to interfere in any championships in that manner. 319. I agree. It would be one thing if Larson was still knocking people out of the way, but bringing up one incident from "a couple years back" is hardly indicative of what he would do today. There's a reason ad hominem arguments are generally fallacious. 321. 1995 Subaru WRX Sti posted: 09.05.2016 - 10:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (3) "Just like Cale Gale vs Kyle Busch at Homestead 2012. Push him to the wall, make sure the opponent can't speed up and just go to the checkered flag." I looked at the comment section for that race, hardly anyone had the problem with it. People had more of the problem with Kyle running off like he does. BTW Kyle would have done the same thing. "Had it been reversed I do think Custer would have tried something similar just from watching his aggressiveness over the past couple of years" Agreed Custer would have done something like that. The "driver code" doesn't mean a whole lot anymore. It is "take it when you can get it." Custer can handle this one of 3 ways: 1. Wreck JHN at Chicago 2. Wreck him during the Chase (might very well be parked for it) 3. Beat him on the race track 322. Mannoroth posted: 09.06.2016 - 12:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (3) 321. That's why I call it inconsistency. People complain that NASCAR's decisions depends on the driver and not on the consequences, but they do the exact same thing as far as complaining about something is concerned. Just like you said, no one had a single problem with Cale Gale pushing Kyle Busch in the wall. Because it was Kyle Busch, who was involved. And really? Did Kyle pushed Joey Logano, Timothy Peters or Kyle Larson to the wall in their photo finishes at Bristol like Cale Gale and now JH Nemechek did? No, he kept his line and raced to the checkered flag nicely side by side. 323. Sean posted: 09.06.2016 - 12:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes, the Gale move was dirty as well but not AS dirty. He did not turn Kyle at a 45 degree angle, have him recover, and then run him into the wall. He just ran him into the wall and neither driver lost control prior to the finish line, so it was about half as bad. While I don't condone it, it's more understandable for somebody seeking their first win who was already rideless for the next season and knowing they would probably never win again to do that than somebody like Nemechek who had already won this season and seems to be fairly set. So I agree it was bad, but not a direct comparison. The worse part of what Nemechek did was punting Custer at a 45 degree angle, way worse than even the usual bump-and-run. Custer probably wasn't going to win after that regardless. You can rub with both drivers still being in control (as Gale and Busch were) but knocking somebody that far out of line is what reminds me more of the Rudd/Gordon or Gilliland/Montoya incidents. Custer was just lucky there was runoff here so he had no risk of getting hurt afterward. I don't think Custer's a clean driver either (I'm not sure such a thing exists since I'm even cynical about Martin, Jarrett, and Burton in that regard) but two wrongs don't make a right. 324. That's not cool make your opponent unable to defend himself. But whatever, I hope he enjoyed that, because he's no longer there and it was most probably his last win in Trucks. 325. Is scheduled to race at Chicagoland in the #18 sponsored by SiriusXM. This is most probably just a replacement start for Bristol, where he was supposed to be competing, but cancelled it for unknown reason. 327. But the good thing is he's still young and that's something that can be forgiven as long as it doesn't become a pattern, and it hasn't with him. 330. Daniel Hemric has still yet to win a single race in NASCAR's 3 national series at the time of this writing. 336.
