Self was still in the top-20 in driver points coming into this race (16th) despite missing the prior race. 12. joey2448 posted: 04.01.2017 - 3:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The No. 1 truck of Bryce Napier brings out the first caution on lap 3 with a smoking vehicle. I guess I may be overrating their equipment since they've only ever ran with fully-funded drivers (the Dillons, Brandon Jones) and are partially owned by Lorin Ranier. If they ran a truck series regular then I think we'd have a better understanding of how good they are. 57. rm posted: 04.01.2017 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Briscoe was uncharacteristically all over the place today, but he did apologize in a very lowkey postrace interview. Looked like a lot of classic Martinsville short track racing today, tempers flaring all over the field. There wasn't really one dominant truck either. Bell seemed like he could have won if he had a bit more patience with the 19 truck. Sauter seemed like he could have won if he was a bit less aggressive on the final restart. Gragson looked like he could have won if the trio in front of him wrecked at all. Elliott prevailed in the end, something he couldn't pull off last fall. At least this race was less of wreckfest than last spring's race. Not nearly as many multicar incidents today. 58. The race had a little bit of everything...there was noticeable aggression, bumping and blocking throughout the race, as well as some long runs that invited pit strategy. 2017 Owner Points now govern the rest of the season. The points aren't as atypical as they were at this point 1 year ago. But there are still some surprises with the 92, 87, 66, 16, 02, 49 & 63 in the top 25 and pretty much safe if they attempt to qualify at Kansas. 64. Larson42 posted: 04.02.2017 - 7:26 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @67- I think it has most to do with experience, success and number of races. How many truck races does Chase Elliott run? Or NXS races? Nowhere near the number as Busch. Another reason as I said is experience. How many seasons have guys like Dillon Larson and Elliott run at the cup level. They have 2 cup wins between them and zero titles. They are young guys that benefit from extra track time as they try to become dominant cup drivers. Guys like Busch Logano and Keselowski are guys with a decade or more of Cup experience that have won nearly 20 cup races or more in Busch's case and 2 of the 3 are Cup champions. They aren't out there to learn about the tracks or gain experience. They are cherry picking wins and in Busch's case especially making many of the races damn near unwatchable. Those three should drive in NXS and NCWTS about as much as guys like Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr. Sparingly at best. 2-3 times a year. Not the 15 combined minor league races Busch is doing this year. Plus we all Know it's be more if not for the rule change. Busch is on a mission to win 200 races which is fine and dandy but if he thinks it will make all his "haters" suddenly stand up and compare him with The King I wouldn't hold my breath. He'll always be reminded that 150-160 of those came against guys not at his experience or talent level and usually not using the Cup crews and teams that he does. Remember how well Busch did in NXS when he went away from JGR for 2012? I know Busch is one of the best out there today but he's got a ways to go yet to be considered one of the all time greats. The 38 wins are strong and he should cruise past 50 but he needs another title for me to consider him with Petty Earnhardt and Johnson. The one he has is the weakest title in the history of racing. Miss 11 races and still win a title? The intimidator is rolling over in his grave. Shameful gimmick filled crap that NASCAR keeps pushing year after year. 72. Larson42 posted: 04.02.2017 - 7:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @58- Hey now. Chastain was 9th at Atlanta as well. That about as good a run as this. I think if someone would give Chastain one more shot on a good truck like GMS or Thorsport and let him race full time he'd win races and/or compete for a title. His talent is wasted with Johnny Davis crap equipment in NXS 73. Ultimate Warrior #18 posted: 04.02.2017 - 8:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Larson42 all you did was justify the double standard of it being ok if some cup guys win verses others I have nothing against Chase winning but your examples were weak and you pretty much bashed Kyle Busch just because. Chase is a former Xfinity Champion last years cup rookie of the year made the chase and came close to winning several cup races last year I don't think experience should be used to protect him cause I've seen people on this site Bash Erik Jones now that he's a Buschwacker so please explain that. Also that GMS truck Chase won in was Hendrick supported which all the GMS trucks are for 2017. Again I have no issue with Chase unlike majority of people on this site I like cup guys running lower level races just wish it was like the old days when cup guys used there own equipment. 74.
