Maybe Coughlin will finally pull out a good finish, after topping the morning practice and then qualifying top 10 here. Took him long enough...then again I do think general expectations for rookies and young drivers are too high these days. I wonder what his plans are for the next season in Trucks - some other starts in #46, return to #18 or some starts with another new number? I would take the 3rd option, because it's not as stereotyped as seeing him in #18 in all 3 series all the time. And that old school logo of the number 46 was also cool to see. 51. And about the extended future; he said he'll retire from xfinity after win 100 so I wonder if he's gonna do the same for trucks after he breaks Ron Hornadays's record. 54. Scott B posted: 08.18.2017 - 7:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The truck series isn't a priority for Ford (or Chevy), Toyota is the only manufacturer pouring any money into it. Without Brad Keselowski's Cup tie-in, the only reason Ford would be interested in this series would be if there was a specific driver they were very stoked on developing. 59. Ultimate Warrior #18 posted: 08.18.2017 - 9:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @60 I expect Nemco to close up shop as well there financially struggling Joe has to start and park a extra truck for additional funds. Thorsport has 2 pay drivers so anything could happen there. As far as competitive teams that's gonna rely on manufacturers support Ford hasn't been supporting the series 100% since around 2009 and Chevy I assume started cutting back a couple years ago. Unless they could somehow convince Dodge or another manufacturer to support the truck series things aren't looking that great. Also factor in it's impossible for even KBM to sign a legit sponsor even though it's been said that it only takes about 3 million to run a competitive team fully funded it's not a great outlook on the series right now but that's the reality of all 3 major divisions in NASCAR money and cost expenses is running this sport thin. 62. Mannoroth posted: 08.18.2017 - 9:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 54. Right, but you forget about something. Kyle has never said he won't race in Xfinity till his racing career is over. When Joe Gibbs asks him for a favor, he'll race. So it's kinda Jeff Gordon retirement - he also raced when Rick Hendrick asked him. And he won't do the same in Trucks, because there's a different situation - Joe Gibbs Racing has a lot of reliable sponsors and much more money than Kyle Busch's team. Kyle makes these occasional starts in Trucks to get some sponsors and money from them. That's why he said he will shut his team down, if they ban him and other Cup drivers completely in lower series. Plus, Kyle didn't retire in 2011, when he surpassed Mark Martin's 49 wins, so there's no reason to stop racing in Trucks, either. And now take a look at Brad Keselowski's team - they are kinda consistent, but they just don't win often even with Keselowski, Logano or Blaney behind the wheel. So it was just a matter of time, before they ran out of money. Plus, Keselowski doesn't do the same thing as Kyle Busch - make some starts to get some sponsors to provide his rookies some elite equipment, so they can show what they are made of. That was a mistake, in my opinion. I'm sure Keselowski or Logano could bring some sponsors into BKR. 63. rm posted: 08.18.2017 - 12:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 61...if any of those Thorsport guys lost their primary sponsor tomorrow they'd be done...save Crafton maybe, but they're all only there because they have steady sponsorship. You could say they're all "pay drivers". 64. TeamDCR fan posted: 08.18.2017 - 12:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think NEMCO will cease operations. Yes he's doing it to make a little extra cash, but Joe is probably entering too as a field filler to try and avoid short fields, like Norm does with the 57 65. GoPM21 posted: 08.18.2017 - 12:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @64 No business owner is going to enter an event to "avoid short fields", unless NASCAR is providing them with some sort of financial incentive to do so. I guarantee you the casual fan doesn't know how many trucks comprise a full field. 66. Danish Pie posted: 08.18.2017 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If there are spots open on the starting grid, and you have a backup truck in the hauler, you might as well enter it to collect some free last place prize money. That's why owners like Norm Benning, Jennifer Jo Cobb, Mike Mittler, Joe Nemecheck, and Al Niece have entered second trucks into the short fields this year. Not out of the goodness of their hearts, but to collect some money that NASCAR would just take back anyway if not enough trucks enter. Not that it's a bad thing that they do that, it helps teams keep afloat, and it also looks better on paper to have 31 or 32 trucks instead of 28 or 29. But that's the reason they do it. They aren't trying to get full fields for the sake of getting full fields. They do it for the 32nd place prize money that's free for the taking. 67. Anonymous posted: 08.18.2017 - 1:41 pm Rate this comment: (2) (2) I don't think NEMCO is quite as cash strapped as some people make them out to be. 68. Kyle Busch would make history once more by winning all three NASCAR national series (Cup, Nationwide and Truck) races in the same weekend at the same track. This would be the second time for Busch to accomplish this "sweep" as he did so at the same exact track at the Bristol night event back in 2010. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
