I for one hope Sauter gets it, but if not him than Cindric. 2. NewGuyOnTheBlock posted: 11.14.2017 - 9:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The final race for Christopher Bell in the KBM #4. Ford dropped factory support of the Truck tour during the Great Recession and never fully came back but Penske's move to Ford in 2013 was accompanied by Brad Keselowski bringing his Truck team over to the brand where they've been the Blue Oval Boys most consistently competitive team in the years since. F-150s have been a presence in every race since this series started back in 1995 and I hope that's not able to end for good; here's hoping the BKR Fords can at least go out with a final hurrah if this is it. 5. Even if Senica does make the field, it's not like he'll have any championship implications or anything. It's hard to have an effect on the race from the garage area. :P 7. This series has always struggled to find overall depth, right from the very beginning. After all, the first SEVEN champions drove for either Richard Childress Racing, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Hendrick Motorsports, or Roush Racing, with Ernie Irvan's Robert Yates-backed team also always in the mix, even though they never won a championship themselves. That means that Cup teams, or Cup-affiliated teams dominated in the Truck Series from the word "GO". Not to say the racing has been bad, because it hasn't been, but it's always been dominated by Cup or Cup-affiliated teams, whether they've tried to run for the championship or not. And then about a decade or so ago, Toyota entered in and, with rare exception, have overpowered the field, effectively running the Chevrolet, Dodge (when they were a NASCAR entity), and Ford teams right out of the series, leaving only a couple of Chevrolet and one Ford team left to battle the might of Toyota. Even in more recent years, Kyle Busch Motorsports, which is aligned with Joe Gibbs Racing, has more or less dominated things, winning a championship with Erik Jones two years ago, dominating the series last year with Wiliam Byron, and has a shot tonight with Christopher Bell. Only Thorsport Racing in recent years has been a true championship contender without being affiliated with a Cup team, winning successive Truck Series titles with Matt Crafton, who has a shot for #3 tonight. 32. RaceFanX posted: 11.17.2017 - 6:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Unusually this race was run with a large #88 on the paved section alongside the track on the backstretch. Ford, with the track's permission, created the two digits out of tire rubber using a pair of new Ford Mustang muscle cars doing donuts as an impromptu tribute to NASCAR Cup racer Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in honor of his retirement from full-time competition later in the weekend. It's a cool but bizarre tribute, Junebug hasn't driven a Ford since his earliest days in late models. 33. Since the caution doesn't actually come out until nearly a full lap is completed after the leader passes the S/F line to end a stage (for instance, in this race, laps 41 and 81 are listed as having been green flag laps), it's not until the fourth lap after the official completion of a stage that the pits are even opened, and then the regular cycle of pitting takes place over two laps (lead lap cars on the first lap and ANY cars on the second), followed by both the free pass and, if there are any, wave-around cars, that's why the second stage is always six laps shorter than the first stage, even at the intermediate tracks. Why NASCAR can't figure this discrepancy into the stage lengths is beyond me. For instance, for this race, the proper stage lengths probably should have been 35/40/balance of the race to make up for the laps in the second stage that are eaten up by the caution laps run after the completion of the first stage. I think NASCAR should seriously consider adding 5-7 laps to the length of the second stage in the future, depending on the length of the track, as long as they intend to continue with stage racing, to compensate for the beginning of the second stage being eaten into by caution flag laps after the completion of the first stage. 105. Assuming BKR's equipment is used for 2 full-time teams and NEMCO becomes part-time, I'd say the teams that are positions 1-14, 16-26, 28 and 32 in this race's running order will be full-time. That puts the count at 27, and I think Young's Motorsports is bringing the 20 up to full-time status next year. As for new teams, I think they'll all be part-time with the exception of the BKR buyer (my personal opinion is that it's going to be KHI version two). 110. JSPorts posted: 12.06.2017 - 11:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There are only 5 confirmed teams and drivers so far. They are: #02: Austin Hill, Young's Motorsports Chevrolet (crew chief: Chad Kendrick) #21: Johnny Sauter, GMS Racing Chevrolet (crew chief: Joe Shear Jr.) #45: Austin Wayne Self, Niece Motorsports Chevrolet (crew chief: TBA) #88: Matt Crafton, ThorSport Racing Toyota (crew chief: Carl Joiner Jr.) #TBA: Salvatore Iovino (R), Copp Motorsports Chevrolet (crew chief: TBA) There were 22 full-time trucks in 2017, but Brad Keselowski Racing (2 full-time trucks) has shut down. I think that leaves the series with either 20 or 21 full-time trucks, assuming all the full-time teams from last year come back (or those that don't are replaced by others.) I say 20 or 21 because Copp Motorsports hasn't announced yet whether Iovino will drive the team's #83 or a 2nd truck for the team. If it turns out to be a 2nd truck and Copp runs the 83 full-time, that would put 21 trucks in the field full-time. Of course, there will be other part-time trucks next year, as well. 111.
