RaceFanX posted: 06.19.2018 - 9:10 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The race distance is being measured in kilometers instead of miles. 200K is roughly 124.3 miles. Using kilometers to make a race sound longer/more important is an occasional move in stock car racing. The Xfinity Series race at Talladega for instance has always been about 300 to 312 miles but used to promote itself as the "Hummingbird Fishfinder 500K." I kind of wish they would put the K back in the name when they use kilometers, it sounds cooler. 3. Mannoroth posted: 06.19.2018 - 11:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 3. That's exactly how it should work - you're a talented rookie that got a ride for one race in elite equipment. Did a good job, so KBM (the team that has an alliance with JGR) offered him another shot in a different series. And if it goes well, he might have another shots to prove himself, before he goes somewhere else or stays, but he will be ready and more experienced. And that's the most important thing. 5. Tyson posted: 06.19.2018 - 12:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @4 - except that's not really how it worked. This race has been on Herbst's schedule all along, so I'm sure he'd be racing no matter how Iowa went. 6. Wil posted: 06.19.2018 - 12:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @4 Herbst did well at Iowa, but realistically that performance had no impact with his standing with Gibbs/KBM--he would have still gotten this KBM seat if he had crashed on lap 1 last week. He's with the team because of the money his family has and will continue to give them, and anything he does in the car is just gravy. Still, he performed much better in his Xfinity debut than I or anyone else expected, and if he can continue to produce solid results, he'll begin establishing himself as a legitimate talent. With the equipment he's in though, it'd realistically take a race where he leads a bunch of laps and contends for a win to be considered on a similar level to the other hotshot prospects in the Toyota/Gibbs pipeline, as a driver at least. He has yet to do that, but he has a chance and Iowa last week was a strong start. 7. As already pointed out, Tate Fogleman, Zane Smith, and Riley Herbst are all strapping into a truck for the first time. The fourth is Bryant Barnhill, driving the 15 after DNQ'ing Harmon's 74 last week in his first truck attempt at Iowa. Though two trucks will go home after qualifying, Barnhill will be safe based on the 15 team's Owner Points. 13. rm posted: 06.20.2018 - 10:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This week's race decidedly has an ARCA feel to it as TRD drivers Christian Eckes, Zane Smith and Riley Herbst will all be pulling double duty at Gateway. Gilliland, Gragson, Finley, Hill, and Enfinger have all competed in at least 1 ARCA event so far this year while Sargeant and Haley won 2 ARCA races each last year. Going to be very interested in how Zane & Riley do, I think Riley shocked a ton of people with how well he did in the Xfinity car at Iowa. 14. I wasn't shocked by how Herbst ran in the Xfinity car, simply because that equipment is the best in the series. I expect a similar run with KBM equipment at Gateway. 15.
