Eh, during the early years of the Trucks series that actually occurred several times even when NASCAR was doing well (by wider margins too). The Truck series had some huge entry fields for its much rarer superspeedway events back then (a race at short-lived Walt Disney World Speedway had so many trucks turn up they ran a Hooligan last chance race and a few series regulars ended up slotted into it). The fact the Trucks were cheaper back then and you still saw a lot of weekend warriors randomly buy a truck and take a shot at the tour likely contributed to that. 8. Jimmie4life posted: 07.17.2018 - 12:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) @7 I knew that, because there was some truck races with 40 trucks running in it, but, now, the cup series has less than the trucks is(to me) pitiful. 9. Should be an interesting LCQ! Just because Cup is the premier series doesn't mean it always will or always has had the most entries. That's not really how that works. There are plenty of reasons for some fans to be disappointed in NASCAR these days, but that complaint doesn't make sense. 11. RaceFanX posted: 07.17.2018 - 2:04 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) This is the sixth year for the Trucks racing at Eldora and while this remains the Truck series' lone dirt track race of the season for the first time it won't be the only race on dirt for one of NASCAR's main touring series. The NASCAR K&N West Series will have a dirt track race at Las Vegas in September. 12. 02Justin10 posted: 07.17.2018 - 4:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Oh boy. Jen Jo's hauler broke down in Chillicothe, Ohio. That's two hours away from Eldora by car and 1st practice starts now in less than three hours. Crunch time for them. Hopefully they can find a couple trailers and at least get the trucks to the track in time. 13. If they can make Practice 2 or Single-Car Qualifying, or even the Qualifying Races, they'll be able to turn 2 laps in those 3 sessions. But I am worried about simply arriving, it would suck since Joe Cobb works really hard on her trucks, and I really want the #0 to finally run a whole race with Ray Ciccarelli :( 17. Which, BTW, is not the same thing as saying "I'm hoping to see Newman dominate and win this race." Newman, as far as I know anyway, is hardly renowned for his ability or experience in trucks or on dirt tracks, so IMO it will be interesting to see how he fares at Eldora particularly since nobody can remotely make the claim that he is in superior equipment; quite the opposite. 21. Derrick posted: 07.17.2018 - 10:34 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) Newman raced once at Eldora in the trucks before but he only ever has 6 races in the series before this. I think he also said that when he was much younger before NASCAR he raced at Eldora then too. I hope the broadcast doesn't just focus on him instead of the guys racing for points and the other ringers but I want to see how aggressive he is because he usually is that way and when you are too aggressive on dirt it can get messy LOL. 22. To put that in perspective: Record for a winged sprint car is 12.707. 410 sprints are routinely in the 13s. Record for a 360 sprint is 13.895. Record for a non-wing sprint car is 14.712. Record for a dirt late model is 14.866. Late models are routinely in the 15s. Record for a 305 sprint is 15.270. Record for a USAC champ car in 15.334. Record for a USAC midget is 15.801. Record for modified is 16.939. Record for a stock car (i.e. production based) is 18.997. At least, not the slowest of the bunch, by a sizeable margin? @38 - yes, the CTS are heavier, altho not by a whole lot compared to the Eldora stocks. The real reason they're slower is that NASCAR allows essentially no modifications for Eldora, and a chassis designed to work well on a big paved track is very poorly designed for a short dirt track. So the point (going back to @37's question) is that NASCAR should allow teams to make a more dirt-friendly car, if they're going to race on dirt. Yeah, they'd never be close to a 410 sprint, but given the power (and money) the teams have to work with, they should be around the times the modifieds run. 43. For example, JD Gibbs owns the #18 car in the Xfinity Series, but that car is still listed under Joe Gibbs. Rick Hendrick owns the Xfinity #9, but it's still listed under JR Motorsports. That's because there can be different listed owners for the same team. To be consistent, the 98 really should be listed under Duke Thorson. 162.
