Is NASCAR expecting a sponsor to come along at the last minute? That sometimes happens, but it's nothing to rely on. 3. It's been a while since he ran 4 races in a row in this series (2011 was the last time). Well, considering the fact he has nothing to achieve or lose in this series anymore, any other win will be just a nice bonus to that 51 wins in just 145 starts. So even if he doesn't win a single race and something always happens to him, it just doesn't matter now... 7. But the fact that he gives young guys a chance to prove themselves in his trucks, is absolutely irrelevant. Just like the fact there wouldn't be any Erik Jones or William Byron in Cup, if not for him. 73. You're genius. Really. But you forgot about something that's real important. Full-time ban = no KBM in Trucks, which means no money from them and in that case, the Truck Series won't be around for too long. That's what you want? Besides, what would it change? Kyle Busch is already at the top alone in wins. He can just add more, it doesn't matter if he loses now. 78. Exactly. The quality of nowadays rookies just isn't anything special. They all want to be like Kyle (to start their NASCAR career as soon as possible), but forget about the fact it doesn't work that way for everyone. 15 years ago, Cup rookies were usually around 25 with enough seat time and they were not only ready for Cup, but they were able to win almost immediately. Just look at Harvick, Johnson or Hamlin. And that's why we only see the struggle for a few years, before they start winning regularly like Larson or Chase Elliott. 85. Exactly. And as long as most of the lower series regulars say they're fine with racing against them, there's no need to change anything. 7 and 5 races are more than enough - Cup drivers will win something just like the regulars. Just look at last year, when regulars won most of the races in both series. It works and even I'm fine with it. 105. Well, it has to work, because Kyle Busch was racing against Biffle, Harvick or McMurray back in 2004 and I'm sure it forced him to be better in order to beat them. Hell, they even robbed him for some wins, which sounds funny nowadays, but it's true. And even those rookies back in 1990s has to deal with Mark Martin's legendary #60 car. So it works, but only for those that can keep up with him (in other words, for those in elite equipment). Anyway, congrats to Kyle Busch for breaking the record. And finally, he managed to win at Atlanta with his team, because always something happened to him at this track - in 2010, Harvick beat him. In 2012, Ty Dillon beat him after he hit the wall. In 2017, he hit the wall and in 2018, his wheel fell off. 136. Danish_Pie posted: 02.24.2019 - 5:07 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @134 I've been saying it for years. I'd he wants to compete in truck, let him do it all he wants. But do it in Norms truck. Or Cory Ropers. Or Jordan Andersons. Or Josh Reume. If he can go down to truck, bring some of the sponsors with him, and run for C+ and lower teams, I don't think would complain as much. And if he was actually able to win in those trucks, then THAT would be impressive. Equipment isn't 95% of the success in NASCAR like in F1, but it's still more than 50% of the success. And you should be ashamed that you didn't win the race, because someone else made a mistake and wrecked you? Because your mechanics screwed up and one of your wheels fell off? That's not your fault, so how can you be ashamed because of it? Plus, no one will sponsor you, if you don't have the results. Kyle does have those results, but just like Mark Martin or Kevin Harvick in Xfinity, it's always due to elite car. And believe me that many sponsors would easily leave him, if he started driving those slow trucks... Or he could easily do what SHR did with #98 car in Xfinity - use some weaker team as a front, but that weaker team gets elite equipment of yours. And here we go again... 139. And while I am probably adding just as much value to this thread by my previous sentence, I'll try and make make it up with my thoughts on what the Truck Series need (A) An unique identity and character. I needs recognizable faces and it needs series regulars. It shouldn't just be another series at Cup tracks (B) It needs some (maybe as much as 5 or 6) standalone marquee events. Maybe in markets where there is not a current cup presence - and maybe some races at reclaimed historic tracks. (C) The series needs more parity between haves and have nots. This might need a transition back to tracks that doesn't rely on the smallest of margins for drivers to get ahead. Maybe more short tracks and road-courses and maybe more races on dirt. (D) In this time of contraction maybe NASCAR need to consider expansion. Imagine NASCAR satellite truck series events in five-eight regions. And I am picking the following just as an example (Los Angeles/Southern California ; Detroit Area; Florida, East Pennsylvania, Georgia (incl South Carolina), Charlotte/North Carolina). A "spec-style" engine that a race team can built themselves or can be purchased outright, (and then maybe can be inspected and sealed). Trucks that would be able be raced for at least 3 and maybe as much as 6 years or more without being obsolete. A way for people with regional level budgets to be able to compete at minor league level without having to purchase brand new equipment. (E) Do gimmicks that will keep the "buzz" alive, not every week, but keep planning, keep innovation. Live Music concerts for camping areas. (F) and for truck races that's the 3rd race on a Cup weekend, give tickets away. Allow for free (or almost free entry) to students or school kids. Or frre entry for females. That way seats will be filled. Concession stands will increase their business. And maybe some more people will be hooked for life! Get people in to experience (Unfortunately as long as you focus and making maximum dollars of profit by cutting expenses you also sacrifice growth.) 140. Most Cup teams were still single or two car efforts and the focus was just mostly on the Cup series. Cup drivers would go down but it was either for themselves or a Busch owner. Cup teams would have the occasionally Busch car, but those were part time efforts. This allowed the Busch drivers to remain competitive with the Cup drivers, to the point where the could actually learn from them. Also, the series schedules where no where near as aligned as they are now. Many tracks would be on one schedule but not the other. 150. Even if some very known celebrity started some race with him and wrecked him, Kyle would have a problem with it. And he did warn NASCAR to be calm, so it's just up to them, how they decide in the future. Besides, it won't hurt him in case of some full-time ban, but those future rookies... 144. And in the end, they scored more points than Brian Vickers, who was the champion that year. I'm sure that 2001 showed them and everyone that it's possible to run both schedules full-time, so their started doing it. And not just them... Roush, Gibbs and later Penske joined the party. 153.
