There's 2 things to watch out for the next few days that could change this race 1. Chastain's appeal, if he loses the appeal (which is likely, I doubt they'll get it overturned) he is still in a must win situation. The races he has left are this one, Chicago, Kentucky, Pocono, Eldora, and Michigan. I think this streak of 3 races is his best chance and Eldora is his worst chance. He also still needs to get into the top 20, but again, that doesn't seem to be a problem yet. 2. Sauter. Of course we're still waiting on an announcement for if Sauter is getting out of his Iowa incident without a suspension. If it was up to me, he'd definitely need a suspension, the first hit was bad enough but then he slammed into the #16's driver side door as it slid down the track. If he gets suspended then it could take him out of the Chase, but that's up to NASCAR. If Sauter misses this race, I expect Myatt Snider to take over, he's the most logical choice as he's already driving for ThorSport, but he's not entered this week. 3. 34McDowellFan posted: 06.18.2019 - 11:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, Korbin Forrister's #7 team (All Out Motorsports) has reportedly shut down 4. ThatGuy posted: 06.18.2019 - 11:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) (Part 1) I agree with what Jeff Burton said yesterday. If you're going to penalize Sauter, you have to have it actually hurt him. You can't just take 50 points away because he's already won. And currently he is 214 points above 20th. So they may say his win isn't an automatic playoff spot and take away the playoff points or something. I honestly think that if something is severe enough to hurt him, it will be a bit too much of a penalty 5. ThatGuy posted: 06.18.2019 - 11:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) (Part 2) I think back to Brad Keselowski after Charlotte in 2014. When he tried to wreck Hamlin, hit Kenseth and Stewart (all still in car) AFTER the race. The penalty they gave him was basically nothing. I know there were fines, but given what he did to what Sauter did, I think they're done penalizing Sauter...at least for now, we'll see what happens in the future 6. Also, in Xfinity and Trucks there are less cup starts there (somewhat). I Will admit Nascar has been going through some tough times but it is coming back slowly. 12. Anoynomous posted: 06.18.2019 - 7:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No more penalty than one race was needed. Look at the facts, Hill was running 7th under caution, he was spun. He suffered very little damage and finished 12th, on the lead lap. There were no safety workers anywhere near the trucks, they were going around 50 mph. Let's not act like this particular instance put anyone in harm. You should penalize for the significance, not the action itself. Kyle Busch was suspended because he eliminated Ron Hornaday from championship contention. Kenseth was suspended because he eliminated the race leader from the event. Sauter cost Hill only about 5 spots in the race. 22. Sandy posted: 06.18.2019 - 9:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 30 Truck of Brennan Poole Withdraw Leaving the field down to 32 23. Him winning only hurts the other winless drivers on their team since Ankrum is actually playoff eligible. If Snyder is unavailable, ARCA races their the same day, so they can have their pick. Anonymous posted: 06.19.2019 - 10:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @39 Why do people continue to think Ankrum is likely? He makes the least sense of anyone. He got the same waiver as Haley and Gilliland in the past, so he is playoff eligible. So, if he gets the 13 this week and happens to win, then picks up a sponsor because of the win and runs the 17 the rest of the year, they just put a direct competitor into the playoffs, potentially at the expense of one of their own teams. I think we can all agree Snider is the most likely choice if he is available this weekend. It is fun to speculate on who it will be if he isn't available. It could not be any K&N driver because they are across the country, so the Kraus/Deegan talk is not realistic. Michael Self and Travis Braden are realistic as one poster above indicated, as is really anyone in ARCA since they'll be at the track anyway. Any non-playoff eligible driver like a Timothy Peters or Greg Biffle is at least logical as well in terms of speculation. 41. p30le posted: 06.19.2019 - 11:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @22 where's your source that he withdrew? 42. Since, this also carries a loss of money and points, (in his case, 55 regular season points, 7 playoff points, $50,000 challenge money, plus race earnings), just from being dropped in the standings is it fair to say that NASCAR probably won't add more penalties on top of that? But it is becoming increasingly possible that at least one of those drivers will miss the playoffs. Only Moffitt is guaranteed a spot, with his win. (Is the point leader also guaranteed a playoff spot? I seem to remember that being one of the rules, but I can't find it anywhere so I could be wrong about that.) If someone else outside the top 4 wins a race, that would knock one of those drivers out of the playoffs. It is interesting how none of the top 4 drivers have won a race, and this year's winners currently rank 5th, 7th, 10th, 26th, and 38th. In addition--and I hate to mention this, but it is a slim possibility--if we have 5 different winners in the next 5 races, and all those winners are running for truck points, they would knock Chastain out of the playoffs, because we would have 9 winners and he would rank lowest in points. I hope that doesn't happen, and it is unlikely, but we have had so many different winners already (discounting the races Kyle Busch ran) and a number of other drivers who have shown that they are capable of winning. 131.
