Speaking of disappointing, Logan Seavy, who almost won this race last year, isn't entered. I was hoping KBM would bring out the #46 for him but nope. The race being on Thursday instead of Wednesday has also decreased the number of one-offs because no Cup or Xfinity drivers can race, along with the fact there's apparently some other big dirt race on Thursday. Not sure why they moved it to Thursday but whatever. Also, Bobby Pierce said on Twitter he was working a deal with Mike Mittler to be back at Eldora this year. However, due to Mike's passing, that won't be happening. With only 32 entries this means Jake Griffin driving Mike Affarano's #03 is locked into the race. Griffin's last Truck start was 2016 with Red Horse Racing at Eldora, where he finished 4th, so we know he's capable, but the #03 is probably the worst truck in the field. (Even behind the #6) 4. ON average every Even year they get a lot of entries. 2014 (33 out of 30), 2016 (37), 2018 (39). Meanwhile Odd years don't have as many on average. 2013 (35 out of 30), 2015 (34), 2017 (33), 2019 (32). 9. Would you rather have 35 entries but three or four start and parks or 32 with one or two start and packs. Because the 0, 1, and those people aren't entered whic I like but I also want like one or two people to DNQ. In my mind they should still do the LCQ because the last 5 spots will be determined by Owners Points. In my mind this is actually a step up from last year because there are fewer people who would do a lap or two and pull it in. Also, for smaller teams like the 03, 08, 80, and who else they don't have to worry about making it they can worry about just the race. 12. Jordan Anderson, Spencer Boyd (injury), Brennan Poole, Natalie Decker, Anthony Alfredo, Josh Reaume, Cory Roper, Jesse Little, Angela Ruch and Joe Nemechek- while none of them are top 12 in points, they are all in the top 27 and none are racing this week 2. DGR-Crosley has fielded 4 trucks before, but this week will only field 2 and only 1 will be driven by one of their regulars 3. How come the young guys never compete here? Chandler Smith, Raphael Lessard and Sam Mayer are all affected by age restrictions this year, but this is a 0.5 mile track. Others that come to mind are Harrison Burton (who did race here in 2017, but not last year), Todd Gilliland-this could be his 4th Eldora race, instead it's his 2nd. 4. Every top team that enters this loses money. Kyle Busch confirmed this 8n an interview with Dale Jr last year. He'll never enter the 46 truck in this event. Other owners agree, so unfortunately this trend will continue. 38. TooSmartForThis posted: 07.30.2019 - 6:56 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) Why are all rich people so scared of "losing" money?* Why can't Kyle Busch afford to enter an extra truck for one single race? Why can't billionaires like Rick Hendrick and Roger Penske afford to run a team without sponsorship for a few races? I have never understood this. *(the appropriate word is "spending", something normal people are forced to do all the time) 39. NASCAR moved it from Wednesday to Thursday to give them time to regroup but now it's too close to the weekend and cup regulars or Xfinity (Briscoe is an exception) regulars can't do it. What they should do is put it on a Wednesday after a off week say (Kentucky-Off Week-Eldora) this is just my opinion. 40. David posted: 07.30.2019 - 7:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) They CAN afford it, they would just rather have someone else pay for it. Corey posted: 07.30.2019 - 7:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's all the special preparation that goes into getting a truck ready for Eldora. There are certain things they'll do for here that they won't do anywhere else on the circuit. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams have 4 year old trucks that they are going to race here. Race at Eldora, fix it, put a tarp over it, prep it, race it at Eldora. Rinse and repeat for the next season. 42. 34McDowellFan posted: 07.30.2019 - 7:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wonder if Boyd's back injury has anything to do with the hard hit he took at Kentucky a few weeks ago 43. ThatGuy posted: 07.30.2019 - 7:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I can understand not running Eldora, Daytona and Talladega. As Kyle Busch said, it's not worth it to run an extra truck because those 3 tracks you're basically guaranteed to have a torn up ride. It would be nice to see someone get a shot in top equipment, but it's nice to see new faces outdrive their equipment because of the dirt. And you can't really call out Kyle for not fielding a 4th truck, the 46 has only entered 5 races of the first 14. Adding on to @40, it would be nice to see someone like Chastain driving for Jr in 2020, just to see someone with top equipment and talent. 44. ThatGuy posted: 07.30.2019 - 7:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It would also be nice to see KBM run the 46 in say, 20 races next year. Since he doesn't seem to have any interest in fielding an extra truck for Eldora, Daytona or Talladega. Maybe (like ThorSport this year) even run a 5th truck for a couple races. I think there's plenty of crop to pick from to fill the seat 45. Tarheel posted: 07.30.2019 - 8:19 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) 38, ever consider that billionaires are billionaires because they don't take advise from people like you? Besides, it's their money, if they felt like spending it on a Nascar team they would. After Harvick sold his truck team and Ron Hornaday lost his ride, Ron was hired by a man who literally won the lottery and decided to get into Nascar. It took a single season of truck racing to realize it was going to break him. $75 million dollars still wasn't enough to run even a truck team, and sponsorship woes ended the dream. 46. Hi posted: 07.30.2019 - 8:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @42 He said it was not NASCAR related but maybe it was or maybe it got worse with in incident. 47. Ultimate_Warrior_#18 posted: 07.30.2019 - 9:13 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) @38 you do realize besides racing these owners do have normal lives, bills and families to take care of. Penske maybe a billionaire but it's not smart business to throw 25-30 million of your own money to run a cup team on top of that pay employees entry fees and repairs that's roughly about 20-25% of his bank account for just one season i wouldn't do it either maybe late models maybe Arca/ The KN series but any of the top 3 nascar divisions nope. @40 Dale Jr's net worth maybe 400 million but that doesn't mean his account reflects that it's just an estimate figure. And if Jr wants to continue the Earnhardt name long after he's gone like it or not he's making the right long term investment for HIS FAMILY there is life away from the track. You do realize that Brad Keselowski closes his truck team because he was losing an estimated 1.5 million a year annually and he had sponsorship on both trucks. KBM almost closed shop in 2013 because of the same issues so he also started hiring ride buyers. Jr may not wanna hire a ride buyer but it's business because he can't find a company that's willing to cut that 6-8 million a year for his xfinity cars. 48. My money is on Friesen. Good on dirt, and lost a lot of points last week by wrecking out on lap 1 55. JSPorts posted: 07.31.2019 - 12:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'll take Friesen, too. In his last 2 Eldora starts, he has 1 pole, 2 top 5s & 94 laps led. Plus, he's due. 62 Truck starts now, with 19 top-5 finishes, including 6 runner-up results, and 437 laps led. In fact, he ranks 50th all-time in laps led, the highest of any driver to never win a race (next-highest is Todd Gilliland, 247 laps led/69th all-time.) For the average driver, 19 top-5s should translate to about 3-4 wins. He's led 5.2% of the laps he's run, and if he'd won 5.2% of the races he's started, he'd also have about 3 wins. Since the start of 2018, he ranks 3rd in points scored, behind only Grant Enfinger and 2018 champion Brett Moffitt. I also have a feeling that, once Friesen gets over the hump and finally wins, he will win multiple races and be an instant title contender. Sometimes, getting that 1st victory is the most difficult thing. 56. Part of the reason for this disparity is probably that 4 drivers (Ron Hornaday, Jr., Kyle Busch, Jack Sprague & Mike Skinner) have led nearly twice as many laps as anyone else in series history. 58. K&N, and ARCA absolutely should still do 2-4 a year though. Other than the finish last year which was my favourite of the season in any of the top 3 series, I can't think of any of the other Eldora races which I've particularly enjoyed. But then again, I don't like dirt track racing in any form, whether it's trucks, sprint cars, or street stocks. I can appreciate it, but don't enjoy it. Sure, most of the blame ultimately falls on the spotters for arguing about where the drivers should be lined up, but at some point race control has to take some responsibility and start black flagging guys or stop counting caution laps after a certain point. That's something they really should discuss as soon as possible so that there's enough time to implement and communicate the procedures for next year's race. Last year wasn't so bad but this year was probably even worse than ?16/?17, just hard to watch at times. 211. If he had collected points all year AND didn't fail post race inspection at Iowa, he would be 1st, 4 points ahead of Enfinger. This was his 2nd race not finishing in the top 10, the 1st where he wasn't top 10 at the checkered flag. Lastly, Crafton kept his Eldora top 10 streak alive, finishing 10th for the 2nd time 218. Great win by Friesen. Also Dodson never spun to bring out the caution but he spun like 5 times and Smith a few as well as Griffin. When Chastain spun it didn't show the 03 and 12 spin behind them also they didn't show the 38 spin twice. Next year they should just get more camera for Eldora because there's just so much going on. Still a great race 221. UnderdogFan89 posted: 08.02.2019 - 5:37 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) MVP of victory lane was definitely Friesen's son. He was adorable. 222. NASCAR claims they're in the entertainment business, not a sport, but then they seem to be totally clueless about how to be entertaining. And I agree, since every team is required to monitor race control(*) it should be simple: line up where you're told or come into the pits to argue it. After the first time they stop scoring someone for not listening, the problem will go away. (* incidently, I hate that term that NASCAR has stolen from F1. Races are not susposed to be controlled, they're susposed to be decided by the drivers on the track. They need to find a better name...) 225. possum posted: 08.03.2019 - 7:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @170 (and following) - the problem is that the trucks aren't designed to run dirt. They don't have the adjustability that a dirt late model or modified would have, and so can't compensate for the track conditions. If the track is damp and tacky, it's multi-groove and we get good racing. If it's dry and slick, like it was this year, the trucks can't adjust and we get one groove up by the wall. Track condition is mostly an effect of the weather (altho Tony seems to like it dry and slick for some reason). On a totally unrelated note, how about that hair dye on Mikey? Looked like someone sprayed him with gloss black Imron... 226. Outside of the last five Eldora races dating back to 2015, the only other Truck Series race to have an average speed in the 40-mph range was the series' lone visit to the Saugus Speedway in 1995, a flat third-mile track that ceased holding races a few months after the trucks came through town. 231.
