She seems scared enough at tracks not nearly as fast and not nearly as prone to tight pack racing, and this would be a really bad time to fail to listen closely to her spotter as has supposedly been her habit in previous races. If she's willing to just ride around at the back that might be sufficient to bring the truck home in one piece, but even that sounds optimistic. 2. Finished 5th at Daytona despite getting damage on a restart stackup, crashed out at Talladega after getting an errant bump draft from Joe Graf Jr. (imagine that!), ran very well at Daytona in the ARCA race this year, got caught up in the bizarre first lap madness at Daytona in the Trucks this year, and ran clean at Talladega in the ARCA race this year but had an electrical issue. This is probably one of the few tracks I wouldn't worry about her causing a wreck in, I don't think she's nearly aggressive enough to make the moves that would set off an accident, though the lack of aggression is a different issue itself. 6. You can leave here knowing where you stand for Texas and Martinsville without the big question mark of Talladega. I don't really like it in the round of 6, as it could cost the consistent drivers that are left (Moffitt, Chastain, Crafton) dearly, and punch the ticket for Hill or Ankrum 12. Nascarfan3 posted: 10.08.2019 - 5:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) the 34 will be Jesse Iwuji (he posted it on Insta) Josh is still spending time with his 1 month old baby. In addition, he has 5 DNFs (4 of those mechanical), but when he has finished, he has been on the lead lap every time. So, it wouldn't be a bad thing at all for Hill to make it to the final four at Homestead. 16. I just look at how they'd be without the playoff system. Grant Enfinger was 1st almost all year, Moffitt was top 4 for part of the year but top 2 since Pocono, Crafton & Friesen have also been top 4 pretty much all year, Chastain (if he was collecting points) would've been top 5 all year and threatening for the lead. 36. Corey posted: 10.09.2019 - 7:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @35 Honestly, I see Moffitt and Chastain as the two most likely to go to Homestead. The other two spots are up for grabs between Hill, Crafton and Friesen. As much as Ankrum has surprised this year, I believe his playoffs end this round. With that said, Talladega is a wild card, and the picture will become much more clear after this race. I'll add that Hill won the first race at Daytona. It looked at the time that he only won because it was Daytona and there was a lot of attrition, but given his other two victories, I consider him one of the early favorites for the win this weekend. 37. As for the second practice - maybe he tried to do a single run at the back of a pack and lost the draft early enough that he just aborted the run? Not sure, it looks like a lot of trucks skipped the second practice and the ones that did go out were almost exclusively single truck runs, which comes down to truck far more than driver. 51. 34McDowellFan posted: 10.11.2019 - 10:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Peters is going to be a name to watch, he's won 3/4 last Talladega races he's been in Won in 2014 Won in 2015 3rd in 2016 Did not run 2017 Won in 2018 52. About Lap 8 Harrison Burton was turned by Ankrum coming through the tri-oval, after Burton checked-up for Matt Crafton. I completely understand why the locking bumpers rule exists - to eliminate controversial wrecks started by errant bump drafts - but with the seemingly-selective enforcement of said rule it's just led to its own set of controversies. If the drivers want to act crazy and lock bumpers and wreck, so be it. Sauter handled the situation far better than expected, though he did slip in a humorous Dave Marcis quote regarding NASCAR in his radio interview that may or may not draw the attention of the sanctioning body. 122. NASCAR needs to do away with all "judgement call" rules, because almost invariably their judgement is wrong. There should be no rules which don't have a numeric "bigger than this fails, smaller passes" criterion. However, you don't understand why the locking bumpers rule exists. It's solely because NASCAR thinks the cars locked together, as was common for a couple of years a little while back, looks bad. Two cars working as a team wasn't considered to be "real racing" - there was nothing particularly hazardous about it (it's safer than bump drafting), it just didn't look good in NASCAR's eyes. Bump drafting remains totally legal, and just as prone to errant execution as it ever was. 124. Also, it was selectively enforced. 149. Corey posted: 10.14.2019 - 8:44 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Anybody who says they need to get rid of the yellow line rule, must not remember the number of times drivers were using the apron to until the very last possible moment going into corners. It's not much of an issue going into the tri-oval, but can have serious consequences going into Turns 1 and 3. We see how much they abuse the run off areas on road courses and Phoenix. Now imagine them not having the yellow line rule at Talladega. Given how tight the packs are nowadays, they would be 6-7 wide on the backstretch trying to funnel down to 3 wide at 200+ mph. Here's a couple of examples. In the 1999 Daytona 500, Jeff Gordon went onto the apron to pass Rusty Wallace for the lead into turn 1 . Rusty tried to keep him down, but had to let him up so Jeff wouldn't run into the back of Ricky Rudd, who had just come out of the pits and was slow. Half a lap later, Michael Waltrip looked to make a pass on the backstretch by going below the apron, into the runoff area. He barely got back to the apron in time due to the grass coming up. Here's a YouTube video of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU6PiQXd92A 150. KentuckyWildcat42 posted: 10.14.2019 - 9:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Two rules need be changed & I'll start attending races again. 1) Either get rid of the yellow line rule or make it where in the last lap, coming off turn 4, there is no out of bounds. 2) Have a reference point on the track somewhere along turns 1 & 2 where if an accident occurs beyond that point on the final lap, you race back to the finish line to ensure a exciting & complete finish. That way, when I pay extra money for good seats up above the flag stand, I know I'm guaranteed to see the race finish there. NOT by an imaginary line somewhere on the track I can't even see. 151. It's obvious he wasn't comfortable trying to make big moves, but the cards just fell his way. So there's a perfect example of how Talladega is unpredictable, Boyd does practically nothing for two laps and goes from 9th to 2nd, and wins off a penalty. 153. Corey posted: 10.14.2019 - 12:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Look at the tight packs at Talladega and Daytona. Look at the aggressive nature of the current drivers. They use the aprons at places like Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan and others. They willingly cut the dogleg at Phoenix and use every bit of runoff they can at Watkins Glen. How often do we see drivers block another driver far to the inside of the track at places like Pocono and Indy. They will use every bit of asphalt they can and if the yellow line rule goes away, guaranteed they will use the apron or the runoff area to make a pass. The incidents for the rule maybe from 20 years ago, but if the rule wasn't in place, we would have had a lot more recent examples of why the rule is necessary. 157. So the rule exists as a way to avoid wrecks by the sounds of it. But isn't that what NASCAR wants? Whenever you see clips on TV commercials and in video games what do they always show? Wrecks! Cars flipping, the big one all of it is used to market the sport. If they went 6 wide for the lead and wrecked going into turn 3 on the last lap NASCAR would use that highlight every week for the next 5 years. I think the rule was a safety measure at first but now its just one more thing NASCAR can use to make sketchy calls like Regan Smith in 2008 discovered or more recently Johnny Sauter. At the time Dale Sr. made comments about the rule the sport was completely different. They made other rules back then to avoid the big one(smaller fuel cells to break up the packs) but its almost the complete opposite now. 159. 52 posted: 10.14.2019 - 5:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Look, another non enforcement of the rule.
