Just to give an example (not a prediction, just an example), let's say Tanner Gray, Tate Fogleman, Angela Ruch, Jordan Anderson, and Natalie Decker all need to use provisionals. In that scenario, everyone listed below Natalie in comment #18 would not be able to use a provisional and would have to be among the 27 fastest trucks. 32. At some point in recent history, they used practice times to set at least part of the field as well. They've changed the rainout qualifying procedure a few different times and I'm not sure what it is at present. 39. 02Justin10 posted: 02.12.2020 - 4:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #38/Mile, That was exactly what I was getting at. The top 25 in owners points from last year get in first. Then, 26th & 27th will go to the two fastest trucks from practice that are not among the top 25. Then, Brett Moffitt & Ross Chastain would both have spots as 2019 Driver Winners (Moffitt also has his past champ status) then any remaining spots still go to last years points finish. Eckes-Roper+Moffitt+Chastain would be the 30 drivers who would certainly qualify. You can use last fall's season finale lineup from Homestead as a guide. In races 2-3 however, NASCAR would use 2020 owner points to fill the back 5 spots (after 2019 Top 25, 2 Practice Times, Driver%Owner Winners. Past Champs) You can use Atlanta's starting lineup from race 2 last year as a guide to see how NASCAR does that split. If you finished top 25 in owners points in 2019, you are guaranteed in the first three races if it rains out. Hill, Benning, Roper and those teams on down would be subject to 2020 owner points if we lose qualifying at Las Vegas or Atlanta. 40. The track is obviously big enough, there's plenty of pit stalls. With the difficulty it is to get new sponsors in the sport, let's extend the field. C'mon NASCAR 42. What posted: 02.12.2020 - 7:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Because that further distributes the purse, and as a result there's less money per position to go around. We all want huge, competitive fields, but without a significant increase in the purse, it isn't feasible. In fact, increasing field size limits without a purse increase would surely result in a decrease in weekly entries. 43. If Gateway gets a little dicey and he gets a decent finish, gets a good finish at Canada (idk how he does there, but road courses are more on the driver) then Bristol gets chippy (being a cutoff race) and he manages a top 5/10 out of that he could advance, then win Talladega he's in. Of course that won't happen. Also if he made the playoffs with the "best, most competitive" field maybe ever, he'd just be taking up a spot from a more deserving driver...like Tyler Ankrum last year 264.
