This is the first of two dirt track Truck races this season as the series will make its debut at the iconic Knoxville Raceway in July. 2. Mr. Friesen is in his normal #52 Halmar International Toyota while Mrs. Friesen is racing as his teammate in the #62 Halmar International Toyota. Hopefully Jessica can race into the main event. The Friesens are the first married couple to run in NASCAR's higher levels since Elton Sawyer and Patty Moise regularly raced against each other in the Busch Series during the mid-1990s. Sawyer raced through 2002 but Moise retired after the 1998 season with their last race together being at Atlanta in November of that year. 3. Anybody know what was the last truck race to have 7 full time Cup drivers in it? I don't think there was that many last year even with the Busch bounty. My guess would be it's been nearly 10 years. And these aren't inexperienced drivers either. I would say Suarez is the least experienced. Briscoe is a rookie in Cup but he won Eldora in 2018. Bubba Wallace won Eldora in 2014, has been in Cup FT since 2018. Larson is well known for being great on dirt, won Eldora in 2016, was a Cup rookie in 2014. Truex & Harvick have been in Cup for 15 & 20 years and have won a championship as well as 2 Xfinity championships. Newman has plenty of experience too 4. Positions 36-40 will be decided based on 2021 Owner Points. This is commonly used in dirt tracks around America and it will be interesting to see it used here. The #39,#62,#83,#49 trucks can only make the event through their heat races. Assuming none of the remaining truck rides that have not announced a ride will not be a Cup driver, the drivers that are in this event and will be running the Cup race are: - #02 Daniel Suarez - #04 Chase Briscoe - #11 Bubba Wallace - #17 Kevin Harvick - #39 Ryan Newman - #44 Kyle Larson - #51 Martin Truex Jr. - #52 Stewart Friesen - #56 Mike Marlar 5. On the Cup side, three heats of 10 cars and one heat of 9 cars. 10. ThatGuy posted: 03.23.2021 - 2:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @5 I figured I wouldn't see it for the simple fact it's a dirt race. But I get annoyed seeing people complain about Kyle Busch running a truck race and feeling obligated to post how they won't watch it. They give excuses like "he/they take away rides from young drivers who want to prove themselves." Now you have 7 Cup drivers in this 1 race (some using it for experience for the Cup race) and nobody cares because it's a dirt race. I feel like somebody like Harvick or Truex is literally just using this to get acquainted with the track, which to me devalues a series more than a Cup driver running his own equipment (limited to 7, now 5 a year) because he wants to race, win, and gage where his equipment stacks up. I don't really care if Cup drivers race once in a while in trucks & xfinity, not like what used to happen (2006 for example). I would like no cup drivers in this race to make Sunday more interesting, but it wouldn't because guys like Larson & Bell would dominate 11. thog posted: 03.23.2021 - 3:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 34 SHOULD be Jake Griffin, not confirmed yet 41 not confirmed 56 will be Mike Marlar 83 will be Trevor Collins 12. Years ago it was normal to do that clockwise, which susposedly helped the track stay down when racing counterclockwise. @46 - no, unless you want to race on bricks (which, actually, might be fun). @47 - the crew at Eldora (and Knoxville, and most of the other big-name dirt tracks) are very familiar with track prep and how to get the right moisture level in the track. That said, I've seen times at Eldora where a rainstorm moved thru, and the track was so soupy that sprint cars couldn't even move. The push trucks had enough traction to get them going, and then the sprints would just bog down on the back and the push trucks would have to go get them. 49. I think they'll run the normal concrete surface when they come back and not attempt this dirt stuff again for Cup. The track made money last week with over 1,000 entries at the Dirt Nationals event and 38,000 spectators. This coming weekend Bristol is hosting the World of Outlaws sprint cars and World of Outlaws dirt late models so they will make good money off of that also. For that matter, he's never finished on the lead lap in a truck race. His only two previous truck starts (which were about 15 years ago) resulted in a 19th place finish, 3 laps down, and a crash DNF. If he wins, Truex would become the 36th driver to win in each of NASCAR's top 3 series, and he would have an unusually long time span between his first win in each series (Busch 2004, Cup 2007, Truck 2021). However, he wouldn't quite beat Michael Waltrip's record in that category, whose first Busch and Truck wins came 23 years apart. 121.
