Emerson Fittipaldi won the pole but was 15 minutes late to the drivers meeting and was forced to start in the back. Pos. / Driver / Time / Speed 1. Emerson Fittipaldi / 1:28.42 / 103.415 2. After IROC moved to Camaros the car was sold and raced in IMSA briefly before it was bought by a very rich semi-pro Columbian racer who rebuilt it into a faster car with 935-like bodywork and a Martini-esque livery. Said Columbian was the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar and he indeed did race it personally for a bit, mostly in hill climbs, before the growing nature of his business forced him to hang up the helmet as he focused on his much more horrific pursuits. There's some famous pictures of Escobar with that Porsche race car but while he met a violent end the car didn't. The 911 eventually made its way back to North American and was restored back to its original configuration as Fittipaldi's #1 from this race for preservation. 7. The King of NASCAR would quip he'd never even driven a VW Beetle before he hit the track in its faster cousin for this one, coming home seventh. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
