He was killed along with several other people in a plane crash later in the year. He was the father of 1996 F1 Champion Damon Hill. 2. RaceFanX posted: 10.14.2020 - 7:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Part of the reason Allison was so determined to be in this race he drove it with a broken back was the car he was scheduled to drive. IROC cars were supposed to be equal but the black #7 Camaro was thought by some to have an edge since it had won the first two races, including the prior day's race with Emerson Fittipaldi at the wheel, prompting him to decide he wouldn't miss his chance to drive it. His doctor told him that he could race if he wanted but advised against it noting the serious risk of further injury or death.
