Mario Andretti won the Formula 1 World Championship about a month before
this race then comes back home to the USA and bests NASCAR legends Cale
Yarborough and Bobby Allison to win at Riverside, a track used by NASCAR
and IMSA at the time but not USAC or F1, on his way to the IROC title.
This was the first of two IROC wins for Mario at Riverside but his only
one against the regular IROC field, he'd win the road racing qualifier
here the following year.
