IROC debuts for Michael Andretti, Wally Dallenbach Jr and Scott Pruett.

Possibly Michael's only race on the Daytona oval.

How did they decide the numbers for each driver? Seems kinda random.

Back in the Camaro era I think the IROC number went with the car (Orange
#8 etc.) instead of being points based.

This was Wally Dallenbach Jr's first race on a high-banked oval. The
road course specialist, and future NASCAR regular, unexpectedly led the
opening laps.

Michael Andretti's only Daytona oval race ends with him clipping the
Turn 1 wall while running at the back on the second lap and triggering a
two-car spin that collected Bobby Rahal.

Tim Richmond was originally selected to race in IROC this year. When he
became ill, Geoff Bodine was named his replacement.

Scott Pruett was in IMSA at this time not CART, he didnt join CART until
1989

ABC broadcast this race. Jim Lampley, Bobby Unser, and Sam Posey were in
the booth with Jack Arute in the pits.
