Right at the start of the race, just past the finish line, Geoff Brabham (who originally started second) spun straight into the wall. He returned to the race in the rear of the field in a lime green car with no number on it. On the second start, Foyt shot through the middle of Petty and Pruett and took second. He eventually took the lead and ran away from everyone. The big problem was tire wear and cars also dropped into the grass next to the track and kicked rocks onto the racing surface, adding to the problem. Wallace briefly passed Foyt for the lead before a caution came out for debris. On the restart, Wallace cut a tire in the first turn and Foyt took the lead again. He led another 19 laps before he too had to pit for a flat right rear. The only two drivers who didn't pit for new tires were Sullivan and Pruett. Danny Sullivan didn't even know he won the race until he got back to pit road and was told to go to victory lane. Lap Leaders: Sullivan 1 Pruett 2-15 Foyt 18-36 Wallace 37-40 Foyt 41-59 Pruett 60-62 Sullivan 63-75 6.
