Rudd and Gant are side-by-side off of four for the win, Rudd high, Gant low, and Earnhardt behind Rudd. Dale breaks low, takes the lead, OUT OF NO-WHERE, and wins. Gant and Rudd finish in a literal dead-heat for second, and I am assuming that because of Rudd's having had led the most laps that afternoon gave him the nod for second over Gant. But none the less, a fantastic finish. 2. James Reisdorf posted: 04.17.2005 - 4:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Actually, both Rudd and Gant are officially credited with second. I think it's the only time that a major racing series has had a dead heat in a race. I find it impressive that you can have a race that averages 182 MPH and still end up with a dead heat. 3. It really is impressive for a race to end THAT closely. 4. nascarman posted: 08.23.2006 - 3:00 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Cale Yarborough and Buddy Baker had a dead heat for third in the 1974 Firecraker 400. 5. 3fan4eva posted: 05.03.2007 - 9:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another unbeliveable Daytona/Talladega move by the man-myth & legend 6. That race is also the race that Pearson pulled over on the last lap so Petty could get by him and then Pearson caught up wih Petty and passed him back in the tri-oval to win... 7. That was some move, I thought Gant was gonna win and Earnhardt just came to the bottom and muscled his way to the win! Very impressive! 8. Pruett had a fire in his car in turn 3, and was trying to get off the track and into the pits. Halsmer had nowhere to go and hit the back end of Pruett's car as they came off turn 4. 16. James W. I wonder if Rusty Wallace driving a blue #2 car ("The Blue Deuce") in this race might have been a sign of things to come. 17. It looked to me like Gant had Rudd by a few inches, but they never did show a good angle of the finish right down the line. Earnhardt gets his 3rd IROC win and 1st at Daytona. 18.
