He wasn't even near the lead, actually. He was coming through turn 2 and just lost it and spun into the wall, not even head on. 3. The slick-looking Avengers, with their Dodge signature "Gunsight Grill," would be used by the series in 1994 and 1995. 6. They talked about it being his first race ever in IROC and that he had already lost it and wrecked practicing for this race a couple days before and hurt his wrist. Background was CART so it could've been his first time ever trying to race stock cars at a superspeedway like Daytona. 7. The 1990s-era Trans-Am cars were very close to stock cars by this point. 8. For this one he notably went to California to play in the Bob Hope Classic pro-am golf tournament instead of attending Speed Weeks. Dale Earnhardt did not let the British ace off for declining the invite as he ribbed Mansell in the press joking that "Me and (World of Outlaws sprint car champion Steve) Kinser are here, aren't we?...He (Mansell) had to go and play golf, didn't he?" Mansell and Earnhardt met for the first time at a IROC race at M.I.S. on the CART undercard the last year. Earnhardt told Mansell he'd love to race against him and jokingly suggested that Mansell should move from CART to NASCAR when they were chatting. Mansell never raced stock cars...although he would do a couple of BTCC races once his open wheel days were done. 9. You couldn't get an Avenger at your local dealer until the 1995 models arrived in dealers in the fall. Earnhardt won both the first IROC race for the Avenger and the first for its predecessor the Dodge Daytona in 1990. Even with Mansell M.I.A. the Intimidator loved getting to race against Steve Kinser for 1994. Earnhardt asked in victory how Kinser did, noting the King of the Outlaws was thrilled to be in this race. 10.
