Al Unser Jr when interviewed after the race said he wanted to be in front on the last lap and try to block like Dale was the year before. He saw the train coming and saw Dale go low so he went down to block, but Dale faked and went high to pass and by the time he tried to get his car up to block Dale was already there. He thought maybe they would lift he said. No way Dale could've lifted. There wasn't time to lift because Unser came right up into him. If Dale could've lifted the entire field would've piled up and wrecked because they were all lined up on his bumper. 9. He mentioned that he did the year before when Dale held him off. What he was referring to was when they were coming to the checkers in the tri-oval at the 1994 Daytona race Earnhardt blocked and pinched little Al coming to the line and held on to win. This race little Al tried to pinch Earnhardt off into the outside wall on the backstretch and instead of hitting the wall Earnhardt had to go left and hit little Al. Earnhardt was being pushed by Martin and they had a "freight train" coming after little Al. After it was over Jack Arute asked Earnhardt if it took the exuberance out of victory lane where little Al wrecked, and Earnhardt stated... "yeah, it's not fun when somebody wrecks." Mark Martin was a player at the end in both the 1994 and '95 race. I believe that those three were the best IROC racers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
