Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart, and Kendall also had damage but Tony and Kendall continued on. 2. J. The former two-time Indy 500 winner hit the barriers and sent them scattering across the track, which may have damaged some of the other cars. This was in fact a very early version of the SAFER barrier now used at most NASCAR-sanctioned tracks. 3. Steve posted: 05.05.2006 - 5:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thank God Arie was okay. It syas here that Tony Stewart is representing NA$CAR. He was actually the reigning IRL Champion. 4. Steve posted: 05.05.2006 - 5:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Oops. Change that! It SAYS here... Maybe I should go to bed. 5. RaceFanX posted: 02.07.2009 - 2:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mark Martin's first ever win at Indy. He'd go on to finish 2nd in that year's Brickyard 400. Last IROC race for former CART champ Jimmy Vasser. Vasser led 36 of 40 laps but had to settle for third. 6. RaceFanX posted: 06.09.2011 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mark Martin wins the race and in doing so jumps past Tony Stewart to win the IROC title, his third in a row and fourth in five years. Quite a feat to win three tiles in a row in any racing series, much less a best of the best series like IROC. Numbers: Tony Stewart- #1 Mark Martin- #2 Jeff Burton- #3 Jeff Gordon- #4 Dale Earnhardt- #5 Terry Labonte- #6 Al Unser, Jr.- #7 Tommy Kendall- #8 Arie Luyendyk- #9 Dale Jarrett- #10 Randy LaJoie- #11 Jimmy Vasser- #12 10. RaceFanX posted: 07.26.2011 - 6:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Again I have numbers wrong because a driver opted out of their points position to start at the back, in this case Tony Stewart who didn't think he had enough practice. The corrected numbers are below. Numbers corrected: Mark Martin- #1 Jeff Burton- #2 Jeff Gordon- #3 Dale Earnhardt- #4 Terry Labonte- #5 Al Unser Jr.- #6 Tony Stewart- #7 From this point on they are already correct. Tom Kendall- #8 Arie Luyendyk- #9 Dale Jarrett- #10 Randy Lajoie- #11 Jimmy Vasser- #12 12. Both Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton could have taken the title from him but while Mark tried to get to the front quick both Jeffs stayed near the back and were collected in Arie's accident. Burton's car was terminally damaged, ending his title hopes. Dale Earnhardt flatspotted his tires missing Arie's crash, he got to make a rare IROC pit stop for new rubber because of it, he even had time to beinterviewed for ABC's broadcast while doing it. His tires were flatspotted right down to the inner-liner by the near miss. 13. Rich posted: 09.17.2020 - 1:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Paul Page and Benny Parsons were the commentators.
