Coolest 1-2 Father/Son finish ever. I wonder what Dale, Jr. would've
done if there was one more lap. Would he have passed his dad or let him
have the win?

This is perhaps the greatest finish. Ever. If it happened in a
Winston(Nextel) Cup race, people would be talking about it until the end
of time.

This is the most underrated finish.

This whole race is on the DVD of the movie "3" that came on ESPN, to let
everyone know.

I was there in the infield for this race. One of the greatest races of
all time! Nothing like schooling your kid in front of the world! Still

easily best race i've ever seen, and i was at talladega the weekend when
dale sr. won the iroc race on the last lap pass + terry labonte won
busch race by smallest margin in history.

basically side by side every lap, close as nails racing. it was easily
the most fun dale sr+jr race ever.

Eddie Cheever's car had a somewhat sour motor in this one, he lost the
lead pack early and couldn't get back due to his problems.

Dale Sr takes Dale Jr to school in terms of side drafting, which Dale Sr
was the absolute master of.

Dale Sr. took everybody to school when he jumped in an IROC car an in
race even his own son. This one was a lot of fun to watch, especially
with my uncle who liked Earnhardt and he was like a father to me. I miss
them both so much.

This was the closest Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ever came to winning an IROC
race. "Little E" ran IROC for two seasons in 1999 and 2000, representing
the NASCAR Busch Series as its reigning champion both times, but never
finished better than fifth outside of this photo finish with "Big E."

An IROC-focused episode of the NBCSN racing show "Glory Road" declared
that many people think of this as the greatest race in IROC's history.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. definitely thinks that way noting it was one of the
very few times he got to straight up race against his dad. The
Earnhardts ran together at the front for much of the race, with Big E
using hand signals sort of directing Little E to stick with him. On the
final lap Junior made his move and got a big run only to lose his
momentum after Senior came up the track and they touched.

Earnhardt, Jr. said this race is a favorite of his to go back and watch
later on. At the end he's really surprised Rusty Wallace, a traditional
Cup rival of his father, didn't stick with him and try to help draft him
past his dad for the win; he thought Rusty would do it for the bragging
rights over Earnhardt but instead he stuck with his fellow Cup driver.

The commentators for the race were Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons and
Darrell Waltrip with Jerry Punch on pit road.
