Tony won this race during a weekend on which a 14 year old cancer
patient was a guest of his. She was in victory lane with him after the
race and the whole 9 yards.

Does anyone know how Dave Marcis got to be in this IROC race? I imagine
it was to sub for someone, but it couldn't have been Earnhardt, as they
"retired" his car for the remainder of the season (odd, seeing as how
they allowed substitute drivers to run races for Davey Allison and Alan
Kulwicki in 1993).

He had torn a ribcage muscle at Charlotte a couple weeks earlier in a
qualifying accident...

You tell me why he missed it...

Goodyear's Indianapolis 500 crash ended his career as a racer, and his
broadcasting career shortly began, as he is still a commentator for
ESPN/ABC's IRL coverage. It seems like their play-by-play announcer
changes every year, though. Paul Page used to be the voice of the
IndyCar Series; now he voices NHRA events on ESPN. Then Todd Harris did
it, and this past year, Scott Goodyear was joined by Marty Reid and
Rusty Wallace. Who knows in 2007.

This was Little Al's first IROC start in which he represented the IRL;
his final CART season was 1999 after struggling horribly in 1998 and 1999.

This was the final IROC race at MIS, a very regular stop for the series
dating the way back to 1974 (for the 1975 season) when it was the site
of the series' first oval race.
