IROC is probably gone, it's not worth it to sponsor it....I mean you pay
how many millions out for a 4 race season? I can't blame these companies.

IROC needs to have 1 superspeedway race (Daytona), 1 Oval that
IRL/NASCAR run on like Teaxs or Chicago. 1 Dirt Track & 1 Road Course
that NASCAR dont run on....that would make it interesting....It would be
nice to see the IROC come back for 08' they have some good racing

more than likley the actual IROC series is dead, but i believe something
like it will show up sooner or later.

if there is ever a "new" iroc dont put so many dang Nascar guys in it

To be honest, I don't blame companies for not sponsoring it either. It's
not worth it anymore. You don't have many world-class drivers around
like you did in the 70s and 80s when the IROC was a big draw. Plus,
SPEED Channel of course has a lot less penetration than ABC or CBS had
when they televised the series, so the advertising isn't nearly as
viable to consumers.

Except for the fact that it was 7 or 8 NA$CAR guys, 2 IRL drivers, and 2
or 3 racers from USAC or road racing. And the races were run on NA$CAR
weekends; not really a "Race of Champions" in its waning years. What
should have been maintained was a great variety of drivers from
different disciplines and a variety of challenging racetracks (more than
4, too).

IROC!! What a series this use to be! I saw some of the best racing
period in this series! it's a shame I have to tell my friend who is new
into racing, about IROC and how much it rocked!! The name was so cool!
I-ROC! I mean that is perfect!! To me you'd have to be nuts not to
sponser this series. If you look at the stands in the 2001 IROC race at
Daytona, man I'd tell ya, THEY WERE PACKED!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say that the IROC series is over. This happened in the early
80s. Maybe with the new Camaro coming out, something could be started
up(just hopeful thinking).

Anyway, does anyone have any good websites that have pictures of the
IROC, for any of the years? Thanks

It sucks, but can't blame them.
I mean why put out so much money to fund this series that does 4 races a
year and like 50 people watch.

I wish it was still here, but let's face it....racing and all sports are
about the BUSINESS, and it'd be bad business to keep IROC

If I were a billionaire investor, i'd fund the series myself. But
unfortunately, I'm not.

I'd make a few changes like adding races at Iowa Speedway and Montreal.
Never understood why short tracks and road courses got no love on the
IROC schedule.

Damn, I miss this series. NASCAR should come up with a "All-Star Race of
Champions" concept.

I would say it would have to be feasible for 9 different series
schedules. Which is why I think Daytona & an end of season race at Texas
or Homestead are basically locks.

Based on 2016, these races would work for a 5 race schedule:

Daytona (Speedweeks)
Atlanta
Talladega (Spring or Fall, Spring Race has a K&N East Saturday conflict)
Bristol (Spring or Fall, Fall Race has a Pinty's Saturday conflict)
Phoenix / Texas / Homestead (End of Season Race)

Could also include the Whelen Euro Series Champion to make it 15 if you
wanted.

IROC would get a notably digital revival more than a decade later. In
2020 during the novel coronavirus pandemic the popularity of iRacing
broadcasts on Fox Sports 1 led to special IROC-branded races with
drivers from across the racing spectrum running identical cars in
virtual races; they even brought back the iconic 1999-2003 multi-color
IROC car paint schemes The events included racers from across the car
racing spectrum including NASCAR, IndyCar, Aussie Supercars, IMSA
WeatherTech Series, Rallycross, NHRA, and even motocross although the
races. The type of cars varied week to week, for example featuring dirt
modifieds the first week and Super Late Models at Daytona the second.
Maybe the idea of IROC isn't dead just yet...

The commentators were Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds and Jeff Hammond with
Matt Yocum as the sole pit road reporter.
