He also finished 14th in the Acme Super Saver 500 listed in the exhibition race segment of this site. 3. I couldn't find anything concrete on Darwin Sandstrom but given that he's another USAC stock car driver and all his other known races were in the mid-United States probably safe to list him as an American as well. 4. cjs3872 posted: 01.03.2012 - 11:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I believe this might have been the qualifying race that David Pearson was supposed to be in droiving Bud Moore's #15 Ford, but they had so many engine problems that Moore's car never even made it to the grid for the qualifying races. Moore tried to take advantage of a rule that allowed cars with smaller engines (351 cubic inches) to run with less weight, but that failed miserably in 1972. But Moore used that to his advantage a year later when Bobby Isaac finished second in the 1973 Daytona 500, though two laps behind the winner. NASCAR was trying to get rid of the bigger engines due to the coming energy crisis that NASCAR knew was coming. 5. The car was miserably slow compared to most of the Chevelles and Monte Carlos of the other bowtie drivers. 7.
