He passed David Pearson just before Jerry Cook and Slick Gardner crashed and under that caution Pearson had to pit because he ran out of gas 3. jp posted: 02.24.2009 - 6:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 74 cars trying to QUALIFY!!?!!!???!! 4. I think that needs to be fixed. Also, is there any info available on Steve Armst? 5. Must be a typo. 6. RaceFanX posted: 01.02.2013 - 9:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsors (and missing owners): #14 Coo Coo Marlin- Cunningham-Kelley (owned by H.B. Because of that, they would have started in positions 38-40, but in what order is unknown. Also, according to the results page, Paul Jett, who was scheduled to start this race from the 26th position, did not start, for some reason, as he's not listed, nor is the 26th starting position mentioned in the results page. In fact, his last starts were in 1972, when he drove in 18 races for Bill Seifert's team. His last attempt at the Daytona 500 was in 1972, when he failed to qualify for the race in a car entered by Ray Nichels and Paul Goldsmith. His worst finish in Seifert's #45 in a race he finished was ninth, which was better than what any other driver in that car was able to do. 11. He did show up to Daytona though with his helmet bag and driver suit no one would take a chance on him. 12. cjs3872 posted: 12.26.2017 - 4:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11, given how well he had done in such a lightly regarded car, that is a bit surprising, but back then, there simply weren't very many good cars (the fact that Donnie Allison didn't have a car to drive in '72 and then failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 in '73, is evidence of that fact, not to mention the number of landslide margins across NASCAR in 1972 and '73). There were more quality drivers than there were quality cars, though Yarbrough's situation was unique because he was considered damaged goods because of the fallout from his practice crash at Indy in 1971. 13. gary24fan posted: 04.25.2020 - 5:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) According to an entry list found in a FB group the car of Steve Arndt was owned by Jim McCommons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
