Donnie Allison started the Daytona Speedweeks with a stylish new Pontiac
Grand Prix race car but the Arrowhead-emblem special turned out to be an
utter dog and qualified poorly. The Hoss Ellington team put the Pontiac
out to pasture after that and switched to an Oldsmobile for this
qualifying race and the 500, a move that paid off well here as Allison
raced up through the pack from a bad starting spot to finish third.

This site's user nascarman had a great story about Allison and his
Pontiac here...
