Benny Parsons came from third to take the lead from DW entering Turn 3 only to have Darrell pull the slingshot and beat him in a photo finish at the line. Waltrip made the winning pass below what today whould be the "out of bounds" line. David Hobbs and Ken Squire in the booth questioned the manuever after the race, they thought that was a little too risky for just a qualifing race. Harry Dinwiddie's early crash was very similar to Randy LaJoie's big one in 1984, happening on the same point on the track off Turn 4. Dinwiddie avoided disaster because while his car did get a little air as it spun over the access roads, not enough got under it to cause a flip. All four wheels of his #49 still got off the ground when he hit the retaining wall though. He was taking off on a stretcher but alright. Richmond didn't hit anything when he crashed out, he just took a big spin through the infield on the straightaway before Turn 1. 2. Wangerin attempted the 500 regularly from 1971 to 1991 but this was the last year he qualified for the Great American Race. He'd crash out early in the 500 itself. 8. acerogers58 posted: 10.29.2019 - 7:54 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Junior Miller was forbidden from starting after he shoved 3 NASCAR officials and used abusive language in the garage area, he was also fined $10,000 and suspended indefintely, He returned at Dover later in the season, DNQed in Charlotte before making his final Cup series start at North WIlkesboro. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
