Also Randy LaJoie makes another attempt at the 500 after his vicious blowover in the 125s the year before but also DNQs. LaJoie would finally race in the 500 in 1995. 2. jp posted: 02.23.2009 - 10:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) if they would have done it my way (top twenty in each qualifyer advances), Thurgood would be in the 500. 3. While the Petty Blue #43 claimed a top-5 Sneva's Pontiac blew a motor early and for the second-straight year the 1983 Indy 500 winner missed the field at Daytona. He'd be back for another, more successful, try in 1987. 4. RaceFanX posted: 03.05.2016 - 4:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Wawak races into the Daytona 500 for the final time. 5. Cowart was a regular at the 500 but would have to wait until 1992 to qualify for the big show again. 6. Sounded like a good one! 8. Gray Gaulding's Distant Cousin posted: 05.13.2018 - 3:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I have the Program of the 1986 Daytona 500 and the results of both 85 qualifiers. Sadly no info is provided, BUT it does say Cale won by two seconds. SO it's likely he made the pass on the back straight and pulled away. 9. A blown clutch one lap in doomed his chances of making his official points paying debut in the 500 and relegated him to a last place finish. He would again attempt to make his debut driving for Ragan a month later at Atlanta, but would again fail to qualify. He'd have to wait until the second Talladega race to make the grid for the first time, wheeling the Hoss Ellington machine. 10. He never lacked for trying that's for sure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
