So Ernie Irvan fails to qualify for the race he would just three years later. 2. Anonymous posted: 11.09.2008 - 12:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Wawak's crash ended his career. He broke a vertebra and suffered detatched retinas. 3. jp posted: 02.19.2009 - 4:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) what was wawak's crash like? did he flip or anything? 4. "Helen Rae Special" was the sponsor, although I'm guessing that she had some sort of vested interest in the team, or perhaps PHIL at the time LOL??? #71-Was obviously owned by Dave Marcis #24-Bobby Coyle I have no clue. #64-Mike Potter was owned by himself in a partnership with Buddy Arrington. Don't know why Buddy was messing around with Chevy's back then, but this team also ran in the Winston Open. Pictures are available on the Historical Stock Car Racing message board. #82-Mark Stahl's car was owned by himself, or actually his wife, Lane Graham Stahl as was the case throughout his entire Cup career. #59-Mark Gibson's car was somewhat self owned but there was someone else involved...sorry but the name escapes me. #49-Mike Porter is a second Hylton Engineering entrant as a teamate to #48 Tony Spanos. Davey Allison's 1987 crew chief until the fall Rockingham race who partnered with Mickey Gibbs for 1988. I'm not certain but perhaps it should read Knuckles (with the s). Bobby Wawak was in car #54. John Linville was in car #74 driving for Bobby Wawak and had primary sponsorship from Nelson Contracting...though I'm sure Superior Piping was a sponsor in some capacity as they always helped Wawak out. Bobby Coyle was almost certainly in a Henley Gray owned #24 Chevy as I mentioned in the comments for the 1988 Daytona 500 itself. David Pletcher only had "J.C Weaver" and not "Wild Turkey Music" displayed on his car, although they were one-in-the-same. Wild Turkey was owned by Weaver who also owned the car. 7. She and her first husband had founded Smitty's Big Town, a grocery chain in Arizona. She later became a philanthopist, and with that money she was also able to show her interest in Winston Cup. She passed away in 2006 Check out this link for more: http://iagenweb.org/boards/story/obituaries/index.cgi?read=102887 8. This was Allison's fifth, and final, win in the Twins after they became a non-points event in 1972. Of course things would get even better on Sunday... ...BUT on the other side of the coin Bobby's brother Donnie Allison, who almost won the Daytona 500 in 1979, had his last attempt at the big race ends in a DNQ as his #34 Buick finishes too far down the running order to make the field. This was the second year in a row he failed to qualify for the 500. 15.
