McDuffie make the Daytona 500 thanks to "The Big One". 4. The Great Dave posted: 03.04.2009 - 12:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) you have two errors on the results. Phillip Duffie was driving #32 and the Micky Gibbs entry was #67 5. Not sure what he had on the hood but it appears to be an ex-Mueller Bros #89 Evinrude Pontiac from 1988. 6. Sacks was thankfully unhurt. 7. 10andJoe posted: 08.23.2012 - 8:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What happened to Brad Teague? I found a newspaper clipping that said he had posted the fastest time in third round qualifying, but no evidence of anything in the qualifying races or the DNQ list? 8. Ridley would also drive in relief of Elliott during the 500. 11. Gibbs intended to run all of the races in 1989 and go for the Rookie of ths Year award but plans fell through several weeks later. Since Arrington and Teague werent planning on entering every race, he leased the ride to Gibbs/Winkle. After Gibbs wrecked in the 125, they paired with Jimmy Means who DNQ'ed and use his #52 Pontiac for the 500 carrying Arrington's #67 number using Winkle's #48 driver. Confusing ain't it?! 12. Weirdly the only other drivers to lead the race were underdogs Jody Ridley, again just subbing for the injured Bill Elliott, and the then-winless in Cup Mark Martin. 13. McDuffie qualified for the #DAYTONA500 where Kyle Petty DNQ'd after a crash in his Twin 125. The Sabates team reached out to J.D. to buy his spot. J.D. gave a firm "No," and raced the final 500 of his career. Kyle drove Eddie Bierschwale's car instead. #JD70 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
