Because the crash here sent him to a backup car he had to start the big race at the back, eventually blowing a motor as he came up through the field. This was A.J. Foyt's last top-10 in a stock car. 8. Interesting that Schrader is listed as a DNF, but isn't the first car one lap down. 9. It was owned by TriStar and was involved in the last lap crash with Hendrick pole sitter Ken Schrader TriStar didn't have a backup car so Hendrick let them use one of his backup "Days Of Thunder" #51 Exxon Chevy's in the 500...renumbered 68 and Exxon decals removed. 11. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 11.26.2016 - 4:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Lap Leaders Darrell Waltrip: Lap 1-6 Ken Schrader: Lap 7-27 Richard Petty: Lap 28-42 Ricky Rudd: Lap 43-48 Geoff Bodine: Lap 49-50 12. They cut away on the broadcast available on Youtube, but before they do you see Ken Schrader get his car restarted and start to coast his car down pit road after only a handful of cars had passed him, so presumably he did get across the start-finish line. So, I guess that R-R referring to it as a DNF is probably a mistake somewhere down the line. 15. Stan's had a white hood and a yellow rear while Phil's had a yellow hood and white rear. 16. They would tape them, edit them a little and show them on CBS on Saturday, the day before the 500. But what you describe about Schrader is what happened, he was able to finish the race after the wreck. About the wreck, this is what they reported on CBS. Somehow, Ken Schrader thought he was racing for the lead with all the other cars that pitted and had no idea at all that there were cars that stayed out. Ned Jarrett said the wreck was completely Schrader's fault and that he should've never been racing that hard with those cars even if he thought he was racing for the lead because he already had the poll locked up for the 500. 17. But you are right in the sense this 6th place finish in the 125 was his last Cup top 10 (albeit a non-points race). 18. He did this for both duels with a different car in each race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
