Trickle ran out of fuel the next lap off turn two and was subsequently spun by Bill Elliott. 2. If news reports from the era are right, he was a Rookie of the Year in the now defunct All-Pro Series. 4. I do miss the years where random people would just pop out of nowhere and attempt to make their dreams of making the Daytona 500. Someone like Dennis Langston who never attempted a race before this and never attempted another race after this just trying his hand on making the 500. Obviously didnt make it but I miss the days when people would try. And you never know, you may end up being a Delma Cowart or Ben Hess and actually make the field against all odds 9. 23andJoe posted: 05.02.2014 - 6:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #48 owner: Lily Lusty (one L) 10. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 11.26.2016 - 4:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 2-4: #29 accident turn 3 Caution 2: Lap 37-39: #01,82 spun Lap Leaders Dale Earnhardt: Lap 1-21 Dick Trickle: Lap 22-47 Dale Earnhardt: Lap 48-50 11. The specific scene shot was the medivac flight out of the trioval after "Cole Trickle" has his big accident. The fans were all to happy to stick around as the filming gave them a glimpse of star Tom Cruise as he was loaded up in the helicopter and flown out of the track for a real. Multiple cameras were used to shoot the scene, including one inside the helicopter that showed Cruise and the crowd behind him as it took off. Notably while "Cole" is flown out in the trioval in the movie his big Daytona wreck happens on the backstretch. The crash scene itself wasn't filmed at Daytona, they didn't want to risk damaging the real track with a flipping car, so the film crew built a replica of the backstretch on a disused airport runway. The doomed #46 Superflo Chevrolet used for the scene was specially prepared with a equipment for a cannon rollover (where a chunk of telephone pole is launched into the ground to flip it on demand) and driven by a stuntman. The footage of the roll was not only used in "Days of Thunder" but 17 years later was slightly altered with CGI (to make the pink #46 into a blue #66) and reused again in the movie "Redline." 12. He did this for both duels with a different car in each race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
