Also a nice run by Ricky Craven to barely sneak in driving for a new team with no points and a very slow qualifying speed. 5. Green attempted to make the Daytona 500 three times in his career, 1997, 1998 and here in 1999 but the 1994 Busch Series champion was never able to actually qualify for the Great American Race. 6. Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart engaged in a awesome battle for the win. Obviously this was Tony's "welcome to NASCAR" moment with Dale. 9. Otherwise the 125s mean nothing. When it came time for the actual big race that mattered, Dale Earnhardt couldn't finish the job. Of course that never stopped the commentators every year artificially inflating his win total by counting Bush, IROC, Busch Clash and 125 races to his total to make him seem like this great driver at Daytona. 18. Obviously he had some bad freak luck in the race that contributed to him not winning the D500 more. 10 straight top 10 finishes from 1987-1996 in the great American race including five second place finishes overall I would say made him "some great driver" at DIS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
