A handful of laps later, Jimmie Johnson encountered the same fate, and in an attrition-free race both men lost any chance of catching up with the field. Fortunately for Geoff (and also for Jimmie, had he missed the front row) the low attrition rate meant that virtually everyone fast enough to qualify on speed raced their way in, thus making the threshold to get into the field about as low as it's ever been: 31st-fastest Shawna Robinson snagged the last spot on time. 9.
