This pass was largely irrelevant to both of those drivers because Green would have still made the 500 based on his speed (10th overall) and Wallace was in no danger of missing the race because of his 2001 owner's points. Had Rusty held on to 15th on that final turn he wouldn't have needed a provisional to make the race, and the final provisional spot would have gone to Hut Stricklin instead. 3. The quick speed saved them when they DNFed here but the legendary team would still be sidelined by sponsor woes for most of the season before shutting down. Shawna Robinson didn't qualify through her 125 but was fast enough in qualifying to still make the field. She became the second woman to compete in the race. 6. RCR stepped in and gave Marcis a strong engine for Speedweeks and the old veteran successfully raced his way into the 500 with a seventh-place run here. In many ways it was Marcis' last hurrah as a blown engine ended his day in the 500 itself. This was the first of two Duel wins for then-defending Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip. He won this one at the 125-mile length and then won again in 2005 after the races were lengthened to 150 miles. 10.
