It was neat to see Mikey edge teammate Dale Jr. by inches for the win. Although this was a non-points race, it was Tony Eury Jr's first victory as a NEXTEL Cup crew chief. Congrats to Michael and Tony. 2. SPENCER posted: 01.11.2006 - 1:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (3) Nice 2 see Michael get the win,to bad Jr. had to get 2nd 3. Most people won't put up much of a fight to keep the lead after staying out under caution, but Sauter wasn't going to give it up! Too bad the engine broke. 4. Ulrich's step-son Skeet in "Scream," it came out Feb. 25 that year but tanked at box office before later becoming a minor cult hit. Randy's Daytona 500 hopes seemed to match the title, I believe he was caught up in Morgan Shepherd's wreck at the start but while he was able to continue briefly his hopes of making the 500 for the first time since 1995 were over. 8. Geoff Bodine should be a DNS for this race. The first wreck happened when Carl Edwards tried to go underneath Randy Lajoie while 3-wide and inexplicably spun out Lajoie. Kenny Schrader spun after passing the wreck but didn't hit any other cars and continued just fine. Hermie Sadler had to really lock up the brakes to avoid Lajoie's car when it came back across the track and swerved sideways at the last minute when he was hit by Morgan Shepherd. Shepherd was barely hanging onto the draft in last place and was holding it straight through the smoke when Hermie swerved and Shepherd hit him. Hermie continued with slight damage but poor Morgan Shepherd's bid to make his first Daytona 500 since 1997 was done. Lajoie later blew up and spun out in his own oil while running solo, and the combination of the mechanical failure and damage from his spin doomed his 500 try. Elliott Sadler stalled it on pit road and then started smoking once he pulled out on the track. He completely blew the transmission trying to fix it and had to start way from the back in the 500. Under the same set of pit stops, Johnny Sauter pulled a nifty move and cut across the grass just before coming down pit road and inherited the lead in a bold attempt to make the Daytona 500. Sauter managed to hold off the hard charging trio of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mike Skinner, and Kyle Busch for a few laps post-restart but Skinner got a push from Ryan Newman and got by Sauter. Sauter slowed up big time the lap after Skinner got by him and caused a chain reaction crash involving Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards, among others. Sauter's pit strategy was all for naught as he began visibly smoking under caution as a result of a blown engine and wound up missing the 500. Skinner held the lead until right after they got the white flag. Dale Jr. looked like he had the race won - TV thought he did too, based off of their shoddy at best camera work of the finish - until Michael Waltrip turned on the jets in the trioval and pulled off the stunning win. Quite a race this was! 12. stire23 posted: 04.03.2018 - 12:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor Updates: #23- Argent Mortgage #93- gewe.com 13.
