Tony Stewart pretty much had everyone's number in this race, also Mike Bliss had a disapointing finish missing the 500 by inches. But Michael Waltrip and Boris Said raced there way in with David Reutimann, Johnny Sauter, and Sterling Marlin taking their qualyifing times to make the Daytona 500. 2. Boris Said gets the second transfer spot from Mike Bliss by about .01 second (one one-thousandth). As a fellow Oregonian, I was pulling for Bliss, who in two previous "500" attempts, had qualified for the big show, but not this year. Tough break for Mike, and for 1985 and 1987 winner Bill Elliott, who fails to qualify for the 500 for the first time since 1979. An example of how important the 500 is: Ward Burton was so disappointed about his failed attempt to qualify, he pounded the roof of his car as he got out, and his fist left a dent! He is an outdoorsman, though. 3. He has taken a lot of flak over the cheating scandal, but this was definitely a heck of a drive. I always thought that he had gotten a bad rap throughout his career, but this has given me a lot of respect for the guy. To be able to put all that out of his mind, then recover from the contact with the No. 8 ... that is pretty darn impressive. Good for him. 4. hyltonfan58 posted: 02.16.2007 - 4:30 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) Good to see James Hylton back out there, and even though he didn't make the big race, he came close and did a whale of a job! 5. Cruel as it may sound, this is the Daytona 500, that "Do unto others" crap doesn't apply in racing but here of all places. 10. A true shame, as I've been rooting for James for many, many years now! 11. stricklinfan82 posted: 01.02.2009 - 7:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Go-or-Go Homers (top 2 finishers earned spots in the 500): 55 Waltrip 60 Said (already locked in on speed but raced in anyway) ----------------------- 49 Bliss (DNQ) 70 Sauter (already locked in on speed) 36 Mayfield (DNQ) 78 K. I was wondering if Hylton had made the 500. then I saw the tilemetry on FOX, and no Hylton. I'd like to get my hands on Sauter for doing that. 13.
