Kurt is likely to be the winner, since NA$CAR have had a no-tolerance policy this past week, handing out fines, suspensions, and point penalties like ice cream samples. Solid 150 for David Stremme. Mike Wallace noticeably got the last transfer spot, unlike Boris Said, who had to wait until the replay was shown to find out exactly where he finished in Race 1. I was rooting for Menard and Vickers, but the #83 cut a right rear tire and crashed, and Menard lost momentum with a couple of laps to go. I guess drinking a Red Bull during the 150s was not a good omen for Allmendinger or Vickers. Red Bull Racing still have yet to start a Nextel Cup points race. Montoya will be strong on Sunday, as he showed today. And with Menard's DNQ, I think that assures Montoya the rookie of the year award. 4. He drives for $Rich Hendrick, so without question the shock mount that was too low on the rear of his car that caused the rear of the car to be an inch too low, and thus creating more downforce and getting the spoiler out of the air (much like Johnson last year), was completely unintentional. Therefore, Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports once again succeed in convincing NASCAR to legalize murder, while Matt Kenseth and Evernham Motorsports have recieved the death penalty for jaywalking. Not sure how to explain Mikey and his oiled up ricemobile, though. 5. I would say that for any driver. But once again I repeat, for a MAJOR rules infraction like Jeffie's, not the ridiculous crap that Evernham and Kenseth got busted for. 8. M posted: 12.10.2017 - 1:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Post-race penalties aside, Jeff made one of the greatest charges to the front I've ever seen. He was the first car to pit on the last pit stop and took 2 tires. He fell back in line all the way to 13th position with 5 laps left to go in the race. When the green flag dropped he flew to the front, going from 13th to 1st position with help from only 2 cars really, Stremme and Yeley. He could put the car anywhere he wanted to on the race track, maneuvering inside and outside past the rest of the field and leading only the final lap to win his 4th out of 5 career Gatorade 125 victories. Of course, as usual during this period of time, Fox neglected to make any mention of his run to the front until the last moment before the cars crossed the finish line, instead focusing on the cars racing their way into the transfer spots for the Daytona 500. It also was his second straight Gatorade 125 win in a row, as he won the 2006 race in dominating fashion from the pole, leading the most laps. This race started off a throughly dominating 2007 season for Jeff, one that saw him win 6 races and torch the rest of the competition by 353 points (706 points from 3rd place on back), scoring 30 top-10s out of 36 races on the schedule, tying and passing Dale Earnhardt for most career victories in back to back weekends, and sweeping both Talladega races, becoming the greatest restrictor plate driver in the history of the sport. NASCAR (Brian France) doesn't think that's exciting however, and as a result of the BS 10-race lottery Chase playoff he "lost" the title, despite the fact that in those final 10 races: He finished 9 of 10 races in the top-10. 6 of those 10 races he finished in the top-5, including 2 wins in a row at Talladega and Charlotte in the fall. He finished every race running and only finished off of the lead lap once, at Dover, and that was an 11th place finish. One of the best seasons in NASCAR history. 20. Smith's main Cup ride for 2007 was to co-drive the U.S. Army #01 Chevrolet with Mark Martin. In the lead up to that gig though the new Ginn Racing team decided to enter a fourth car, the black #39, for Smith as a one-off here at the Daytona 500 with car owner Bobby Ginn sponsoring it himself with his Ginn Resorts brand. Smith didn't finish high enough to qualify for the 500 and had to wait until Bristol in the spring to make his Cup debut in the #01. 22. Unfortunately this Duel race would be as far as he'd get; Kimmel started at the back and didn't finish high enough to grab a transfer spot. Daytona was never Kimmel's best track, he was also shut out of victory lane here in ARCA action. 23.
