It will also be the first time since 1981 (when the season started at now defunct Riverside) that the first technically points-paying race of the season is not the Daytona 500 although I believe the Duels are both still being classed as exhibition races. 2. that e-guy posted: 02.23.2017 - 11:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This will just be Penske vs Gibbs and Penske will probably win the race. 3. With only 21 cars in each race, the starting field for each race will tie the record for the fewest cars in a qualifying race, set in the first qualifying race in 1965, a year marred by the Chrysler boycott of NASCAR due to the banning of the hemi. Also, the record for the fewest cars finishing a qualifying race was also set that year, due mainly to the huge crash at the beginning of the second qualifying race that eliminated basically half the 28-car field, only seven cars were left running at the finish of the second qualifying race in 1965. 10. As for Chase even though he won I think he needs to work on how he drives when hes out front. I felt he got way to big of a lead on a number occasions and had to throw some pretty big blocks because of it. I really think Harvick cut him a ton of slack at the end of that race and if it wasn't for the fact this is just a qualifying race there very well could have been a different ending. 55. racefangurl posted: 02.23.2017 - 8:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kind of a meaningless race after this weekend, as it's an exhibition race. JSPorts posted: 02.23.2017 - 10:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Here's a guy who lost all my respect tonight: Corey LaJoie. I get the argument about trying to get into the Daytona 500, and I don't like it. These cars travel at over 200 miles per hour down the straightaways. Kyle Busch hit that same spot in the Daytona wall 2 years ago and missed 11 races. I know it was unprotected wall, there was grass, it was a different angle, whatever. You DO NOT TURN SOMEONE going 200+ at Daytona. I don't like intentionally wrecking someone anywhere, anytime, under any circumstance. Maybe on a short track for the win, maybe in the season finale for the championship...but certainly not in a qualifying race. I know it's the biggest race of the year, and probably of Corey's life, but what if he had been in Reed's shoes? Reed definitely wouldn't have done that. I'm especially upset cause Reed is a true underdog, and he normally runs well in the big race. I hope LaJoie DNQ's all the rest of his starts this year, though that's unlikely because there probably won't be 40 cars at the track. I hope Jay Robinson puts Reed in the car every other week this season, whether the 15 or 55. He's not the greatest driver, but he deserves this opportunity. I am not happy with Corey LaJoie. That was a dirty, dangerous move, and he basically admitted he did it on purpose. 63. JSPorts posted: 02.23.2017 - 10:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Believe me, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he literally said after the race he'd wreck his mom to make the Daytona 500. If that's not an admission of guilt, I don't know what is. And something tells me he wouldn't send his mom into the wall head-on at 125 miles an hour, knowing what it could do to someone physically. 64. chevyfan98 posted: 02.23.2017 - 10:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "That was a dirty, dangerous move, and he basically admitted he did it on purpose." In that case, why not "Cessna Aircraft / McDonald's Restaurants"? I was thinking maybe because of the actual logo displayed on the car, but that can't be the reason because Landon Cassill's car only says "Love's"... the words "Travel Stops" are not seen anywhere on the car. 68. Anonymous posted: 02.24.2017 - 7:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Just curious as to when Lajoie basically "admitted" to wrecking Sorensen. I watched his TV interview and they only talked about how he got the ride and all that. Didn't hear him say anything about how "he'd wreck his own mother to make the Daytona 500". Was it a radio interview or something because I didn't see anything like it. He definitely took the low road in getting in by wrecking Sorensen and Reed didn't deserve it at all. Then again....this could be Lajoies ONLY chance to ever drive in the 500 so he was racing desperate. I know lots of us say we'd NEVER do such a thing. It if we knew that may be the last or only shot none of us know how far we'd go. 70. Josh posted: 02.24.2017 - 8:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Like father, like son. 71. 'I really do feel bad about Reed. I just tried to fill a hole, but it was getting down to it. I probably did have position on him; I'm trying to get into the Daytona 500. If my mom was in that spot, I would probably wreck her, too.' I admit, I am a huge Sorenson's fan. Ever was and probably will be until his final race in NASCAR. I am biased here.
