Junebug starts from pole after qualifying second for the Daytona 500 with this qualifying race being one of the first since 1971 to count for some championship points. 2. He's got to race that #96 Toyota into the field and I hope he pulls it off, how cool would it be to have a two-time champion from NASCAR's Canadian series in the field for its biggest race? 3. Josh posted: 02.23.2017 - 11:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm pulling for D.J. Kennington as well. Out of the four left that need to make the field, I would probably like to see DJK and Timmy Hill in it more than the other two. 4. Canadianfan posted: 02.23.2017 - 11:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I too am pulling for D.J. for obvious reasons. I find it hard to believe no Canadian since Trevor Boys in 1988 has made the field for the 500. Trevor was really good at qualifying for the 500 in less than ideal equipment. He made the race every year from 84 to 88. Hopefully D.J. can get it done in 2017. 5. Mile501 posted: 02.23.2017 - 1:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I'm pulling for D.J. Kennington as well. Although, the way things have played out, it is now impossible for both of them to make the Daytona 500. Kennington, though, will make the Daytona 500 IF LaJoie doesn't make it in Duel #1 and if he beats Hill in Duel #2. 6. JSPorts posted: 02.23.2017 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm pulling for Sorenson & LaJoie. Sorenson has good history in the 500, and I think he has the best shot of the 3 in the actual race. I like Corey LaJoie, and I feel as though he's always been underrated, so I want him in too. Also, it would be good for these two teams, who are trying to run full-time, to make it to attract more sponsorship to ensure they can run the full season. 7. Josh posted: 02.23.2017 - 3:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I hadn't realized Kennington/Hill was impossible. In that case, in addition to DJK, I wouldn't mind seeing Sorenson make it; I think he's a massive underachiever, but he's from the Atlanta area and has enough experience and talent to be interesting in the race. 9. Mile501 posted: 02.23.2017 - 3:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In the old days, when we didn't have charters and we had a lot of cars attempting to qualify, I'm not sure any given combination would have been impossible. And I don't think RuSPORT had quite as good equipment as Rahal either... "Top 10 #2 for Danica this season." If the race doesn't count for the win, it doesn't count for the top ten either.
