Corey posted: 02.11.2019 - 12:03 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) I don't think you guys are thinking this through. The 31 and the 27 are guaranteed based on their times which they can fall back on should they not get the transfer spot in their duels. If both get the transfers spots, then the 71 and 62 get in on time. So Gaughan can wreck but if Gase doesn't beat Mears, then Gase is still out of the 500 as Truex would get the next speed spot 7. TeamDCRfan posted: 02.11.2019 - 12:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gase needs help from a higher power to make this race. 8. Mike posted: 02.11.2019 - 1:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @#1: Not necessarily, Gaughan can still beat Gase and finish the race. If Mears finishes ahead of both of them, and Kligerman races his way in in the first Duel, then the two spots on speed go to Reddick and Truex, and Gaughan and Gase both go home. 9. Danish_Pie posted: 02.11.2019 - 9:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^ It's stupidly complicated to me that there are so many possible variations of who and how someone can go home in which only two cars won't make the field. I'm a strong proponent of not even running time trials for the 500. Just put the 36 charters teams number on ping pong balls in a jar, and pull them too determine which duel the'll run in, then do the same with the open teams. It takes some of the excitement out of it when 1.) The front row of the 500 is already set, and 2.) two of six cars open cars are already locked in the show. But hey, just another entry into the ever growing log of ?needlessly complicated aspects of the NACAR rulebook.? 10. Everything else is a dumb gimmick so why not. 12. Mile501 posted: 02.12.2019 - 9:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) I think the time has come for a change in the way the duel fields are split. Keep things the same for the top 2 qualifiers, then split the field in half but with all the open teams in the second duel so they're directly competing against one another. For 2019, that would play out like this: Duel #1: pole winner and 3rd-22nd fastest chartered teams Duel #2: outside pole winner, 23rd-36th fastest chartered teams, and all open teams There was a time when the current duel structure made more sense. It was exceptionally exciting and dramatic in 2007. But that time has passed, and with the rules as they are now, it makes more sense to have all the open teams in the same duel. 13. Corey posted: 02.12.2019 - 12:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @12 I don't like that idea. Right now you have a situation where Tyler Reddick qualified 16th fastest. By your method, he'll get put in Duel 2 and it sounds like the best he can start is 23rd. Also, you're putting the second fastest qualifier in with the slowest cars on the track. That is kind of putting him in a disadvantage. One final thing, what happens if the pole winner is an open car? 14. ScottB posted: 02.12.2019 - 5:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Best solution (but one that NASCAR won't do anytime soon) would be to drop the idea of twin events and just hold a single qualifying race. 15. 34McDowellFan posted: 02.12.2019 - 5:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Man only 21 cars on the entry list for a plate race, NASCAR is really going downhill smh (This is a satirical comment before anybody gets mad at me) 16. ScottB posted: 02.12.2019 - 5:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, I've always felt like the top 2 qualifiers on speed should just have the option of waiving this race entirely, or running it in a backup car with no penalty. To me not putting your primary car at risk would be a more important benefit than starting on the front row, we all know that doesn't have much impact on the final outcome on this type of track. 17. Mile501 posted: 02.14.2019 - 2:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 I see your point, but in all honesty, starting position at Daytona is rather meaningless anyway. Whatever the solution is (the idea I posted is just one possibility), all the open cars definitely need to be in the same Duel. 21. Corey posted: 02.14.2019 - 8:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Open teams: 96 Parker Kligerman advanced from Duel 1 31 Tyler Reddick takes the first speed spot. For this race: 27 Casey Mears-in on speed cans till transfer for a better spot. 62 Brendan Gaughan-must race his win into the 500 or go home 66-Joey Gase-must race his way into the 500or go home If 27-Mears gets the transfer spot, 71-Truex makes 500 on speed. If 27-Mears does not get the transfer spot, 71-Truex goes home. 22. Timothy_Eklund posted: 02.14.2019 - 8:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Place your bets on who's gonna win. You're only fooling yourself with these Duel races, you really think they're going 100% here? Regardless Jamie doesn't exactly set the world on fire and he's with a brand new team... Oh wait Wil wants him to lead flag to flag. Unrealistic. 56. Sector posted: 02.14.2019 - 9:45 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) As for the race; Chase Elliott is great at making passes. Shame he couldn't do it alone without the help from anyone else. Joey Logano making the pass for the LEAD entering Turn 1 for the final time from FOURTH, then exiting Turn 2 WITH THE LEAD was pretty shocking. Joey's one hell of a plate racer for sure. I think he's better at it than Brad Keselowski in my opinion and they're both good. 57.
