Mark Martin was 7th in Cup points at this time but couldn't transfer in
despite starting from the pole. 1989 was the last All-Star race he's
missed to date.

ARCA champion Lee Raymond finishes 15th in his last NASCAR race of any
kind, he and the #69 Ford team had successfully run the 1989 Daytona 500
earlier in the year.

Trickle had to move to the rear of the field in this race because he was
late to the driver's meeting.

According to a pre race interview with Dick Brooks, Trickle went to the
site of where the driver's meeting used to be and by the time he
realized his error he was late and had to move to the rear.
