The memory of Michael Waltrip collapsing after his hit, will remain with me for a long time! I had no idea what happened to him then! 4. He held the lead for almost a full lap until the much faster cars behind him challenged, and contact between Ward and Dave caused Marcis to spin and led to the violent stackup behind them. Michael Waltrip sustained a fractured right shoulder blade and Loy Allen bruised ribs, but neither driver would miss any action in the following week's 600. 10. I see a couple of guys that didn't attempt a race in 1994 to this point that participated in this one (Bouchard, O'Neil). 13. Both Bouchard and O'Neil ran races in 1993 and were eligible. 14. For years it was the winner only, then it was 2, then top 3, then in 1993 they advanced the top 5 and for this one they took the top 6 finishers. Good thing for front row Joe Nemechek as he finished 6th and just barely sneaked in after shattering the track record for the pole in qualifying on the faster Hoosier tires. Sweet redemption for Jeff Gordon as he wins the Open in 94 after having an amazing car and having the field covered for sure in 93 before losing it into the wall. His last time ever having to be in the Open, so obviously his first and last win in it. 15.
