A blown motor would end his brief flitation. This was his only Cup series event. Robert Pressley was injured in a practice crash so Andy Hillenburg took over the #33 Skoal Chevy for this race. He made it just five laps before putting it backward into the wall and triggering a multicar crash that also eliminated Greg Sacks. 9. It was a First Union Bank promo car that came in a small plastic bag like you would find a McDonald's Happy Meal toy come in. 15. dion posted: 02.24.2012 - 5:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) How do you DNQ for an OPEN race? Bramblegrunt posted: 03.06.2017 - 11:02 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Only incident of the day happened early when Andy Hillenburg was underneath Wally Dallenbach when the air off Dallenbach caused his car to break loose and back it into the wall. He came back down the track and Sacks and Musgrave got into each other trying to dodge Hillenburgs crashed car. Hillenburg was subbing for the injured Pressley who I believe cracked a couple ribs the day before in preparation for this race. Robbie Faggart had a brief moment in the sun in this race and even got a call out from the announcers, starting in the top 10 and was even creeping towards the transfer spot when his engine failed. Johnny Benson was using the car he totaled in practice at Atlanta after winning the pole. He was fast in this race but faded and dropped out of the transfer spot. Lake Speed dominated the first half of the race but after Spencer jumped in front past halfway, they all settled in and comfortably made the All Star race with the top 5 transferring. 22. RaceFanX posted: 03.18.2021 - 10:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @24 Jeff Burton actually did take the green flag in the Winston Select but his motor blew before he got there and he pulled off right away at Turn 1. Burton and the #99 team knew the motor was going to blow after it apparently got damaged in this race but they were qualified for the main event and thought they would give it a go. If he hadn't made the call I doubt they would have promoted Benson up to replace him but still a bummer for the rookie. Johnny had to wait until 2001 to finally make his Winston debut and that year he had to win the Open to do it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
