Ryan Newman becomes the only driver to win the "No Bull Sprint" race, held immediately after the Winston Open to decide the second driver to advance, to advance forward and win the Winston overall. This was the first year of the infamous "Survival of the Fastest" gimic, it would be dumped after 2 more years because fans would get angry about having their drivers eliminated. The inversion being moved to the final segment probably cost Jimmie Johnson the win in this one. Mark Martin had a wicked fast #6 Ford on this night but the engine didn't hold together, luck would even out for him when he scored one of the biggest wins of his career the next week in the Coca-Cola 600. 5. stricklinfan82 posted: 04.28.2008 - 10:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Eligibility Requirements for the 2002 All-Star Race: - all active 2001 and 2002 race winning drivers: 1.) Everybody who doesn't make the precious and coveted Chase simply packs up and goes home and we continue the season with only 16 cars on the track! How exciting! Game 7 moments! 16.
