It was so familiar it didn't even look retro, it just looked right. Shame the #24 didn't run like it did in that era, Gordon was collected in the big one. Kurt Busch caused said "big one" was he got into the back of then-teammate Greg Biffle and spun him, triggering the melee. 6. Kurt Busch being Kurt Busch. I was surprised watching this that night to see Jeff drive back to a 6th place finish with the car all taped up. It wasn't pretty, but it was still a good finish for me if he couldn't win. 11. The rainbow was retired after 2000, but they brought it back for a special occasion. 13. chevyfan98 posted: 09.02.2016 - 11:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Technically it wasn't the last time DuPont was on the rainbow scheme, because DuPont and Axalta are the same thing just rebranded. So Bristol last year would've been the last time. 14. Anthony posted: 09.03.2016 - 12:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) What was Kurt Busch doing? 15. GH05TY posted: 09.03.2016 - 7:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It wasn't just a rebranding; DuPont Performance Coatings was sold by DuPont to the Carlyle Group in February 2013, and renamed Axalta. Axalta is the same *product* that sponsored Jeff Gordon since 1992, but the company has no remaining ties to DuPont. Interestingly enough, DuPont and DOW Chemical are preparing to merge into one single company later this year. So the #3 may sport the DuPont name in 2017. 16. I remember watching this race, but part of it my parents taped since I was only a few years old and went to bed, did he actually take the lead from Stewart? Either way, that's still really cool to see that Labonte did such a thing. 18. Jay posted: 01.16.2018 - 7:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yep. He did lead under green. He started 2nd in the second segment and took the lead from Waltrip. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
