The last 15 laps were run single file and nobody seriously challenged Kahne for the lead. Yet another "triumph" for the COT. 2. Would have liked to see someone more deserving like Dale Jarrett or AJ Allmendinger win this one. 4. The first few laps were decent...side by side..but thats it. 100 laps, no cautions, no wrecks, no side by side racing. I dont see how it could even be called racing. Anyways good job to Sam Hornish. 5. Destiny posted: 05.18.2008 - 12:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow! No Cautions. Kasey is the first fan voter to win the All-Star race. He is the third driver to make before first or after last since Michael Waltrip and Ryan Newman in 1996-2002. 6. DaleSrFanForever posted: 05.18.2008 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) You can't pass!!!! Un-freaking-believable!! Whoever gets out front just leaves 'em. Kasey Kahne runs 7th all night, gets out front with old tires, and is unchallenged. Outstanding call by Kenny Francis. I don't have a problem with Kasey, I was glad to see him win, but that is ridiculous. When will NASCAR fix this crappy COT?? On a positive note, Pee Wee blew up early. Good riddance s***head!! 7. Baker posted: 05.18.2008 - 1:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Pathetic. This was far and away the most god awful piss poor excuse of an All Star race or All Star event of any sport of all time. Terrible Terrible trash. This car is pathetic when it comes to racing. Yes the COT has great saftey features and it is a lot harder to spin out, but why can't these so called racing experts figure out a way to combine the best of both cars? Get the racing back into the sport with the best of the old car, and combine it with the best saftey features of the COT and the ugly wing that helps them from spinning out. 8. Congraulations to Kahne on the win, and great job by Hornish. I just wonder what he could have done without falling 2 laps back early. He was running laps as fast as the leaders all night long. Oh yeah, and good luck and farewell to Dale Jarrett. You will be missed, and it's too bad you didn't have a better race to go out on. 10. Brad posted: 05.18.2008 - 6:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) By far the most boring all-star race I've ever watched. They should have had the invert rule and the race would have been more exciting. Good to see Kahne win it on the fanvote though. 11. Mr. Big posted: 05.18.2008 - 8:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ****fest of a race. And the COT was supposed to bring "great" racing. What bull****. 12. Anonymous posted: 05.18.2008 - 8:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know about can't pass in the COT. It seems as you move up front though the less passes you see. Guys in the back were passing each other pretty well. FYI i was at the race. Yea the last lil bit was boring but biffle and kahnes run for the front was thrilling. Jr. had a great car but got buried in the field during the 3-4 segment mandatory pit stop. 13. Neal posted: 05.19.2008 - 9:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Guys in the back were passing each other pretty well. Please don't use a fight for 9th place as a reason to justify the pathetic performance of the new car. From a competition standpoint, it's a flop. 14. DaleSrFanForever posted: 05.19.2008 - 1:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I agree Neal, I don't care about passes for 9th. I want to see door to door battles for the lead. NASCAR spin doctors try to point out that 25 cars routinely finish on the lead lap, as opposed to 1 or 2 in the 70s or 80s, so competition must be better nowadays. BULL S*** When you watch these old races on Back In The Day or on YouTube, there is always a furious 4 or 5 car battle for the lead, which you almost never see nowadays. It is just that cars weren't nearly as reliable back then and inevitably a few of the contenders would lose an engine, transmission, rear gear, axle, or steering box in the last 100 miles or laps, leaving one guy out front at the end. I would rather see that than 25 cars parading around single file on the lead lap. I don't care if only 2 cars finish on the lead lap, as long the RACE is competitive. This throwing phony late race cautions to bunch up the leaders is a sham. It gives the illusion of a close race, but it really isn't. Give me old school racing any day of the week. And I am only 24 years old!! This isn't some old fuddy duddy pining for the way it was when they were young. This is a young guy who feels awful that he missed out on NASCAR's best era. I agree that the safety advances are awesome. Seeing Michael McDowell climb from an incredibly vicious wreck just 30 seconds after it quit barrell rolling was great. Along with safer walls and hans devices, it will save many lives. But now let's go RACING!! Get rid of the splitters, force them to start out with their car's noses 1 foot off the ground, get rid of that tacky wing, and lets RACE!!!! 15. THOMAS #1 GORDON FAN posted: 05.19.2008 - 7:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was by far the worst All-Star Race ever. Gordon still struggled, there were no wrecks, and no side by side racing. Congrats to Kasey Kahne. At least Kyle Busch had problems in the race and finished last. Sorry to the kyle Busch fans out there...if there is any. 16. sheet metal posted: 05.19.2008 - 10:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A complete waste of time and money for everyone involved. This race made Fontana seem exciting. Ever since LMS was levigated in 2005, the track has been a disaster, and the COT just makes it worse. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 17. Jeffrey posted: 05.20.2008 - 7:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) OK I'm going to break this down in 3 parts. 1. If you think wrecks make an exciting show go to a demolition derby somewhere. This is RACING not WRECKING. 2. No passing? What else do you call only 2 of the top 10 starters actually finishing there, and the winner starting last. What race are you guys watching? It must be up your butts because that's where you've got your heads at. 3. DaleSrFanForever, I don't know how to break this to you but Back In The Day is shortened to where you will only see the best parts. The only reason why you think so highly of that show is because you're an Earnhardt fan. 18. sheet metal posted: 05.20.2008 - 9:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeffrey, about your point #2, I understand what you're saying, but most of the "passing" was a result of the pit strategy shuffle between the 3rd and 4th segments. Kasey Kahne ended up in the lead by taking no tires, not by passing cars. I think it's fair to say most Nascar fans don't want to see a race decided by pit strategy, especially not the All-Star race. 19. Jeffrey posted: 05.21.2008 - 7:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kasey was up to 7th when they made that call. He had to pass people to get up there. 20. DaleSrFanForever posted: 05.21.2008 - 3:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeffrey, I'm actually not that big of a Dale Jr fan. None of Dale Sr's races were on any of those shows. I know they were edited together, but at least they had 25 minutes of good racing to show. If they tried that with today's races on intermediate tracks, it still wouldn't be good. Besides, I was referring more to races on the 80's and early 90's. Yeah, there were some duds, but they could race side by side for many laps at a time. This COT is so aero dependant (as was the old one in the last 10 years) they can't do it. They can't even pull along side of them. And we are not saying we like wrecks, but wrecks are usually caused by 2 or more cars racing really close, and one inevitably slipping up. It is not the wrecks we like, but the prelude to them. And as I said, I don't care about passing from 7th on back. If Kasey had to race for it, he would have never gotten there. Races are more about strategy than racing today. Yes, strategy has always played a key (see 1981 Daytona 500) but not this bad. 21. bob posted: 05.25.2008 - 2:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The problem with a short 25 lap dash at a cookie cutter with the COT=BORING. If they had run the whole race instead of segements or even 2 50 lap segments the racing would of been better, just go back to the Texas and Las Vegas races. In this race the best part was little weasel go out early. 22.
