Yeley puts her in the fence on the first lap. 2. The Long Shot posted: 05.17.2013 - 11:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No. You have to have your car in "raceable condition" to be eligible for the fan vote. My picks (not related to my "predictions" that I made back on the Darlington page: Aric Almirola to win, Paul Menard will transfer as well, and Danica wrecks, so the fan vote goes to David Gilliland. Gilliland 2013! 3. Baker posted: 05.17.2013 - 11:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think McMurray and Montoya walk away with the open and obviously Danica gets the fan vote. It will never happen, but if it were up to me Dave Blaney would win the fan vote. 4. The Long Shot posted: 05.17.2013 - 11:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree with the Blaney comment, actually. The only reason I nominated Gilliland was to rub salt in poor, unfortunate, misunderstood B.O.B.'s wounds. If I had my way, either Blaney, Joe Nemechek, or "The Moving Chicane", Brian Keselowski would win the Fan Vote. 5. RaceFanX posted: 05.17.2013 - 11:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In case anyone is reading these five years down the road NASCAR amended the rule for the Fan Vote a few days before the race. Instead of the highest vote getter who finishes on the lead lap it's the highest vote getter who has a car in 'raceable condition.' A back-up car could not be used. Of course this is a democracy, if the fans want Danica Patrick so be it. 6. Jim Davis posted: 05.18.2013 - 12:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "...and obviously Danica gets the fan vote." I'm not sold on this. If Montoya doesn't place 1st or 2nd I think he might possibly get the fan vote. Sort of like Nelson Piquet, Jr. getting the most popular truck series driver award last year and Narain Karthikeyan getting it in 2010, Montoya might have enough international support to pull it off. 7. 83andJoe posted: 05.18.2013 - 12:35 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Montoya didn't beat Bobby Labonte in the fan vote last year. The simple fact of the matter is that the ballot box will be stuffed for Danica, because she's The One True Great One Who Will Save The Sport. 8. So she's the T.O.T.G.O.W.W.S.T.S? I'll stick with B.O.B, thanks. 9. Paul posted: 05.18.2013 - 1:40 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) "if it were up to me Dave Blaney would win the fan vote." I agree with you, Baker. Blaney is a true all-star in the world of motorsports and it would be nice if he finally got the recognition he deserves by being in the All-Star Race. Unfortunately, he has a better chance of winning a Sprint Cup race in TBR equipment than advancing to the All-Star Race tomorrow night. 10. David posted: 05.18.2013 - 9:12 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I've voted for several different drivers: Dave Blaney, AJ Allmendinger, and David Gilliland. This is straight from USA Today: "According to the entry blanks - which are not available to the public - that's not the case. An entry blank examined by USA TODAY Sports makes no mention of a fan vote winner having to finish on the lead lap this season. That's also the case for entry blanks from 2007-11, though the 2012 entry blank did have that requirement. Apparently, though, the 2012 lead lap rule was a mistake and it was corrected this year. However, that wasn't communicated prior to the press release with the rules being issued. NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said that loophole has been corrected for the future and future releases will always reflect the language on the entry blanks." 11. Alex posted: 05.18.2013 - 9:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Unfortunately for the Gilliland fans, the top 5 vote getters were: Bobby Labonte, Danica Patrick, Jeff Burton, Michael Waltrip (not entered), and Martin Truex Jr (not in order of votes). So you Gilliland and Blaney fans need to vote lots today so they can come second to Danica and hopes she crashes out. 12. 83andJoe posted: 05.18.2013 - 10:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) >So you Gilliland and Blaney fans need to vote lots today so they can come second to Danica and hopes she crashes out. And why is it not surprising that Montoya was deep-sixed by a mistake he made yet again, while McMurray was calmly performing and turning laps without making a mistake. Could it be that McMurray is just one of those that is never intimidated by the big stage, while Montoya is one of the most mistake-prone drivers I've ever seen in my years of watching he sport, especially on the big stage. 68. 13 posted: 05.18.2013 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (4) (1) I was actually thoroughly entertained the whole race 69. I have long felt that Jamie McMurray is one of the more talented drivers in the sport who never really got a fair shot in great cars. We all know Jack Roush was using him as the test dummy and we all know Roush has a knack for holding drivers back. It is too late for Jamie Mac at this point in his career, but it would have been fun to see him in Gibbs or Hendrick(Curse them all) cars. 72. Indianapolis 500 Monaco Grand Prix 24 Hours of Daytona Grand Prix of Long Beach Michigan 500 (beating Michael Andretti in the best oval duel in CART history) He has won EVERY big race he has entered outside of NASCAR in either the first or second attempt. You can say he chokes in NASCAR, but please do not say he chokes in big races in general because it is simply not true. Montoya is one of this generation's all-time greats in motorsports and one of the few who has been somewhat successful at what Andretti, Foyt, and Gurney once were. Yes, he's an average NASCAR driver and a very annoying personality but the rest of his career is pretty freaking great... 75. The way things are going for him so far this year, Jeff Gordon may need the fan vote or race his way in through the Showdown next year, unless a significant change is made. And Sean, that thing about Montoya choking is primarily about his NASCAR career, though in that Indianapolis 500 you mentioned, almost anyone could have won that race in that car, as big of an advantage as Ganassi had on everyone else that year. And he focused almost all of his attention on Montoya for that race, which was why Jimmy Vasser was never competitive. And when Montoya beat Michael Andretti in the Michigan 500 in 2000, the only reason he won that race was the draft he got from another car at the very end. That little boost gave him the edge he needed. And he's a main part of the reason why he's a 3-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. 78. murb posted: 05.19.2013 - 12:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Jr has never needed the fan vote to get into the race.
